Works to replace and expand the Botley Road rail bridge, Oxford

A 360 panorama of this enormous cock-up (can I say that?) in Oxford … a project that is 3+ years behind schedule and which has pretty much cut off the western part of the city from civilisation.

They brought in a big yellow crane and cancelled all trains south for the week. A giant rail-replacement bus terminus has been installed in the car park nearby. Of course normal rail service will resume next week and of course the project will complete by August 2026 and double-decker buses will be able to get under the new bridge.

How exactly does one make a picture like this?

  • Panorama mode
  • 360 panorama
  • upload the stiched image to Kuula (need to stitch the multiple images on older models)
  • share link here

I went along a couple of days later on 4 February. My 360 take on the progress, with the walkways installed before being capped by the new rail bridge slabs. DNGs stitched in PanoVolo and edited in LrC. Air 2S. Lots of fun now as it’s a C1!

Yes, much better light than the first day we went!

Yes, shame you couldn’t make it. I thought LrC stitched the DNGs OK, but the zenith was poor. Coughed up for PanoVolo, looks promising. The DJI stitched JPG is usually OK with a light edit though. With a complex scene like this, interesting to see how the various stitchers work with moving items.
