York Minster - Added to Places of Worship in Yorkshire and the Humber

I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:

Land owner permission requirements unknown.

The park adjacent to the minster is owned by the minster and they have signs saying no drones. I flew from the street by the front entrance and was able to fly and maintain VLOS. the parking marker I have placed
on Bootham Row is free before 8am which is handy as it's a 3 minute walk if that to the Minster. I flew early in the morning (7.15) hoping to get sunrise. (the weather had other ideas) there are lots of carparks in the city, but be aware this is a tourist area and during the day gets very busy.

The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 09/11/2024. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location.

I want to fly here @stevesb, have you got any other tips or advice?

Not really. I would try to fly early in the morning to avoid crowds. When i flew at 8am there were the odd 1 or 2 people around but no interactions.

Hah hah, that “message” surprised me - I’d seen your marker on Drone Scene so I clicked it to say I’d like to fly here … thought no more of it, other than checked out the possibilities etc. Obviously, the system then sends you an automated message asking for tips or advice  Early morning flying is not going to be so easy for us as we are staying 2 miles out on the eastern side, and aside from cycling in it’s unlikely I’ll want to run in with my drone bag (although I suppose I could …)

@R3SKT There’s a little tick box setting you can turn off if you wish

If you’re coming soon, a word of advice.

Don’t

Place is bedlam

Off to York on Sunday/Monday.
Checked Drone Scene to see two huge NOTAMS. Typical luck for me. Luckily its only in effect for Sunday evening 18:30-19:00 (19:30-20:00 BST) and Monday morning for the Red Arrows 10:00 - 11:30 (11:00 - 12:20 BST).

So hopefully I may be able to get up outside of these times and get some nice shots.

Don’t forget, a NOTAM is not necessarily a prohibition for flying a drone (or, indeed, any other aircraft), only a notification of something to be aware of.

This is a temporary Navigation Warning, it indicates a possible hazard to aerial traffic in the region indicated.

I want to fly here @stevesb, I’ve added it to the list of places I want to fly
