Yuneec Typhoon H and NFZ’s

Just done a bit more digging on Yuneec UK. According to their webpage they’re on a small industrial unit in Romford, which I assume is the place I emailed

Just for giggles I thought I’d search the Government’s registry of businesses.

On the Gov registry of businesses Yuneec’s address is in London EC2A with one officer whom is the sole shareholder. But at the address listed is a business and solvency rescue company. There was another listing for Yuneec which was dissolved in March 2012. Interestingly in both instances the same director is listed.

A member - some time ago - had a Yuneec something that had issues. He lived near them and went to visit them, I believe. That area of the UK rings a bell.

And, I think it was @Turbys9 ?

I had to go there once. Ordered a backpack for one of my Typhoons. waited six weeks then called in when I was in the area. Young girl behind a desk said I would have to wait at least three months for a delivery. Got home contacted Yuneec in Germany, four days later one arrived. So much for supporting British business.

I am in Romford where is it?I could pop in and ask what happening

I call shenanigans. My contact at Yuneec UK is also called Graham. Are you sure you’re not one and the same ???

In all seriousness thanks for the offer based on the runaround I’m experiencing I have a feeling that the Yuneec UK premises is now nothing more than a shipping/sales address. And the European offices can’t be arsed with legacy drones, which the Typhoon H is, because there’s no profit in it.

How many of you waited with baited breath for the release of the Yuneec H-850 RTK, which was at the beginning of September? Exactly!

Yuneec were touted to be the company that might have been a positive option to DJI. But due to some very bad business decisions, poorly thought out and rushed products (MantisQ, Breeze, Firefly), they appear to be just a few steps behind following 3DRobitics into obscurity, whom incidentally sold their custom version of the Yuneec H-520 before submerging beneath the waves, only to re-emerge as Kittyhawk Aero. A company promoting personal electric flying machines through vapourware.

Just like Grandpa Joseph Simpson, my thought clouds are becoming random again

Oh the cat is out of the bag yes it it me I have been hiding in plain sight watching your pain. No I am not him the other Graham. But if you want I will be more than welcome to go and have a look. Hope you get it sorted.

The thot plickens.

Now somebody at Yuneec is telling porkies.

Just screen grabbed this from an old YouTube video.

I’d be more than happy if Yuneec offered to reduce the NFZ radius down to 3.4Km from the 7km its currently at.

I think it’s time to put my disgruntled of Purley head on, and fire off another email to Yuneec Europe.

Hi Guys

This is one of the reasons I moved to DJI.
Yuneec are amazing bits of kit. But seem to be full off gremlins.
I’ve still have yuneec drone but never fly it because I’m worried if it’s going to glitch and cause me problems. Unlike the MP2 that has been faultless from day one.

The Yuneec drones, meaning the Q500 and the Typhoon H series, were very good in their day. I have a Q500+ 4K and still consider it to be very capable, but it’s not portable in the same way the Mavic series is. I liked it at the time because it wasn’t just another Phantom Clone. I’ve no experience with their Mantis series of drones but when they were released they were a year or two behind their DJI equivalents, meaning the Mavic range, and we’re probably in part responsible for Yuneec’s decline.

At last the penny has dropped at Yuneec Europe. Or maybe it was just one of those lost in translation things.

After sending them the screengrab from the Youtube video, demonstrating the reduction in NFZ radius, they have replied back and said they can send me the required file in return for the product id of my Typhoon H. :grinning:

It’s also a poke in the eye to YuneecSkins whom have been messaging me on a near daily basis trying to get me to hand over $100 for virtually the same thing.

I also now have full control of the camera after replacing the slip ring assembly that connects the supply and data connections from the drone to the camera.

Time for a well deserved lie down.

Sorry @Nidge I’m not clear on wether this file removes the NFZs completely, or just reduces the radius of one/all of them?

What sort of file did they send you? Can you share it here?

… flying session in what had been an NFZ!

It reduces the original NFZ’s from a radius of 7km down to 3.4km, which is more inline with the true size of the NFZ.

I’ve yet to receive the file as my reply was probably outside of their business hours.

I doubt it’s shareable as it’s linked to the unique product ID of the drone.

I don’t have a Yuneec drone, the file is safe with me, I’m curious as to its contents

I bet you are :wink::wink:
Then you can tell if it is sharable. I would think it is as the H’s are heavily pixhawk based.

I have a H share it with me and we’ll see if it’s locked to the drone.:rofl:

I was more thinking along the lines of modding the radius down further still, to say 0.0km or something. Then flashing the drone with it. Like we used to on the DJI Inspire and other older-gen models

I received the file from Yuneec earlier today.

The file is actually a license coded to the serial number of the drone. When installed into the GUI it creates an option in the settings to enable or disable the NFZ’s.

I’ve just done a quick arming test, without mounting the prop’s, in my driveway, and even though a message appears on the controller’s display advising of a NFZ I can now arm the drone. There’s nothing to suggest that the NFZ radius has been reduced or removed altogether, but I’m happy that I can now use the drone in areas I’m legally allowed to fly.

I love Yuneec

This is why a manufacturer shouldn’t dictate how the purchaser uses their products. Nor should a regulator tenuously intimate that a manufacturer has a responsibility as to how their products are used. Give a regulator an inch they’ll take your arms, legs, and your firstborn.

We are currently seeing this play out with the FCC and their attempted introduction of compulsory remote I.D.
