Fascinating following this.
It certainly is
Is your printer up and running, yet?
Still waiting on it arriving.
I’ll chase it up on Monday.
I’m still learning though, I only learned the animation last night.
Although I could have downloaded stl.file for my printer there is no satisfaction for me, also they all have an added fan but mine will hopefully work well by ducting the air from the existing fan to the hot end.
These mods have transformed a cheap printer into a proper Makerbot; the quality that’s printing now is just exceptional, I can’t believe the the transformation, it’s printing like a £ 2K + printer now, at least these small sized parts.
Full marks to you @Njoro , I have, like a lot of the members, been watching the mods that you are doing, and I am very impressed with your ability to be able to 3D model like you do.
Keep up the great work !.
Just fascinating !
So - I can imagine there are controls for the print nozzle temperatures - so why is the fan needed and how does it improve the print quality?
Thanks for the compliment, it’s been a steep learning curve but one I’ve loved. I’ll keep posting as an encouragement for anyone who’d like to have a go…
PLA, ABS and other plastics need cooling to stop warping. The trick is to keep the nozzles at a constant temperature to end up with a very controlled flow rate.
My current nozzle temperature is 189^ for my cheap filament, it took a while to work out the best thickness of the thermo insulation, once I got that nailed my hot end sits at exactly 189^ without fluctuations and as it’s PID controlled and that’s incredible. It used to fluctuate quite a bit before, by as much as 4^.
As the filament is extruded it needs to be cooled down ready for the next pass especially when printing on a hot bed. Most of my PLA prints have been on a glued cold bed so I didn’t need cooling, I’m experimenting with a new adhesive that only work when the bed is hot so hence the cooling duct design.
I’ve gone on a bit ooops!
Not at all … I’m learning.
So the left and right side, ready for 3D printing, quite a few man hours spent on this…her in doors, " I might as well not be here"…so I’m off to order a nice curry to bribe her…
Looking like eyes for some kind of robot …
Now you said it, it does…I can see johnny 5 in there…
That is EXACTLY what I was thinking!
So I’ve had a go at printing this duct but it fails at exactly the same point and I think it’s the bed temperature or affecting the filament.
I’ve had to redesign it and broken it up to sub assemblies, I’ll try a full print later today.
Thanks @Njoro & @MementoMori
You you you
Look what ended up at my house today
Oh and my first print just done
Now for all the other mods
Looking good on the phone Jeff.
I’ll have a proper look later when I get home.
