All looks good Karl @notveryprettyboy you’re 3D skills are pretty good
Persnally I’d leave the 4in1 ESC in the centre as part of the controller stack, but it doesn’t have to be, just my OCD kicking in
Just spraying some of my 3d printed tpu mounts black while I wait for the Chinese shipping containers for parts. I’ll finish with some acrylic lacquer hopefully to seal them.
Or I should just get some black tpu
On its way to me. I was sold with the needle meter
A man after my own heart. I very rarely care if they’re accurate I just love moving coil meters. I have radio gear that could be considered as vintage and there’s nothing more pleasing than using it in the dark with the only light coming from the heaters inside the valves and the amber glow of the illuminated moving coil meters. As Tony Hancock once said about amateur radio.
“ This radio lark is a wonderful hobby, y’know I’ve got friends all over the world, all over the world… none in this country, but friends all over the world.
I’ve just been sorting out the ribbon cable from the fc to the aio esc.
You’ll see that the inputs and outputs are in a different order.
It’s a bit of a pain, but you need to swap the cables round so that the fc and esc can communicate.
ESC
FC
Cable split apart, and rewired
Here is how I am mounting the vtx (video transmitter).
They get really hot really quick, especially when the power is ramped up. So I printed a petg mount to force the vtx onto the top plate of the body of the drone (carbon fibre). I’ll use heatsink paste too.
Generally, the airflow from the propellers will keep it cool (if it over heats, they drop down in output power). But I just want to make sure.
If the petg starts to sag with the heat, I’ll think of something else. Should be ok I think.
@Steviegeek @DeanoG60
I’ve just been playing round with the caddx ratel 2 settings, and came across this yt video. I tried his settings (using the keypad that you plug into the camera) and found them to be very good.
You can also change the shutter speed, but I guess that is for sunny days?
I’m happy with how mine is set so I won’t be changing it. But good to know
Cheers for this Karl, my very short usage at the weekend did not give good results which was a power line issue I’ll resolve, so did not bother sending you the footage
Dean, your settings are good which is what made us choose this camera for our 7 inchers.
Do you fancy sharing your settings and we can see how they compare
Cheers guys
Steve
I don’t think I’ve got the keypad you plug into the camera so might have to wait till this lockdown is over so I can use Karl’s to look at the settings.
Steve, did you use the stock motor screws? Seem a little short.
No mate,
I cover this in the 4th video which should go up at tea-time ish.
8mm are supplied, but I’ve bought and used 10mm, also the heads are a bit crap on the supplied screws
I’ve got loads of stock, so you can have a set
I have got a load. Somewhere…
if you are stuck …
This video shows the preparation of the ESC.
Cut motor wires at 30mm when measured from the metal bell.
Cut capacitor wires at 8mm, measured from where they enter the body, (good idea to pre-bend the wires ready for fitting)
Cut heatshrink at 50mm long
ESC:-
Heatshrink sleeving:-
Low ESR Capacitor:-
You’ve uploaded the wrong video in your first post @Steviegeek the 2 videos you’ve just posted are both the same
Thanks Dean
In process of rectifying it
Here is the second video in this 7" Quadcopter build series.

Mines done now, and hovers nicely in the back yard. Shame I can’t fly it for a month!
Weight is 610g without battery, 1221g with Might have to try li-ions
I’ll try and rustle up some sort of captioned build video at some point.
Looks bloody great Mate
@notveryprettyboy
Like the colour scheme, black with a bit of green to hide in the grass.
Would love to see a video if you were to take it for a ‘walk’ whilst on your daily excercise
