A comparative discussion re: DJI Mini 2 vs DJI Mini 3 Pro?

I’m sure the Council will put me right if I mess up here, but has anyone done a comparative discussion between the Mavic Mini 2 and the Mavic Mini 3?

The Mini2 is way cheaper and seems to be more stable (signal stability), but the Mini3 is newer with more features, but way more expensive. With all the kerfuffle caused by the CAA at the moment I am wondering if I wouldn’t be better off with a sub 250g drone.

Sorry if it’s been discussed already. :pray:t2:

The ability to turn the camera from landscape to portrait is an absolute winner for me. I actually really like portrait photography. With the Mini2 I would be taking portrait panos to keep the quality.

Not any more. If I do by a bigger drone which I am seriously contemplating that is the one thing I will miss about the Mini 3.

That’s really interesting, and I suppose a pointer to my age, as I have little use for this feature (as far as I understand it for the moment). I’m not really into social media so don’t do youtube “Shorts” - which is where I am imagine this comes in handy. :older_man:t2:

It was, until they started trying to force updates on everyone. I crashed my mini2, it was flawless. Sent off to the pot heads and got a replacement with all the new firmware updates. Its now a pile of shit that struggles in anything more than light winds. Video lags all the time or loses connection all together, constant high wind warnings in nothing more than a slight breeze.
I have complained but they’re not interested. I doubt I will buy another dji product.

I just prefer the way they look. These pictures are not drone pictures I just really like the depth of a portrait over a landscape.

I like the depth and I think it makes you concentrate on your subject or point of interest more.

These are gorgeous photos! :clap:t2:

You need to be able to use both, along with squares of course. Different subjects need different framing. Its all about how YOU see things for whatever subject you’re framing and how you want other people to see it. If other people don’t get it then just accept you’re cleverer than them.

As someone who doesn’t fly as often as I’d like, I haven’t found any reason to upgrade other than the controller with the built in screen.

iPhone forces a dim screen on you when flying in hot/sunny conditions and that can get very annoying.

Mini 2 is a more than capable of capturing great video and the battery life is decent.

Agreed. I had huge problems with being able to see anything on the iPad Mini 4 or 5 and eventually went back to an Android device. I haven’t looked back since.

I was very interested in the controller with the built in screen and considered getting one, but it would have meant a downgrade in screen size (which my eyes wouldn’t like) or an uber expensive purchase, which my kidneys wouldn’t like.

I am asking the question for the very same reasons you have stated here (with regards to the Mini 2). I had a Mini 1 and had to send it back because it had pretty much zero wind resistance. I think they addressed that in the Mini 2 and I’m not sure they have done anything else to add to that with the Mini 3, other than perhaps changing the angle of attack in flight.

your right BOMOAOK my mavic mini had updates ruined every thing had to delete from mobile/ computer then re-enstall all again won’t bother with updates again now i have GPS signal and good to go.

I’m more than happy with my Mini2. If I was more orientated to video and photo stuff I’d possibly consider the Mini3, but it would have to do something totally revolutionary for me to purchase one.

I have had issues using the Mini2 whereby it would report connection problems, and the downlink video would crawl along at around 10fps. This was due to the DJI Fly APP. I use Litchi instead and I’ve yet to experience any issues. Because Litchi is less bloated it will run on earlier versions of Android, and supports legacy drones such as my Spark, which means I don’t have to use the equally problematic DJIGO4 app.

Ah, you just answered what would have been my next question

OK, so let’s add to my confusion

I see adverts mentioning DJI Mini 3 Pros with “no controller”. If I already have the controller from the Air2S (so the newer standardized controller) can this be shared between two drones at the same time (I mean pairing, not flying two at the same time). Or would I be looking at finding another controller?

These drones are a helluva lot cheaper than the full set and offer a different way into acquiring a Mavic Mini 3.

Yes the DJI RCN1 (included with the Mini2) is compatible with the Mini3 Pro.
On the note of adding the Mini3 to your drone collection.
There are rumours that there will be a Mini3 NON Pro released shortly. Which will retail at just under £700 for the fly more combo
GavinHR released a YouTube video recently, showing a UK retailers website which was advertising the Mini3 NON Pro, apparently it’s a similar design to the Mini3 Pro, without the forward and rear avoidance sensors.

Thanks for this, I didn’t know. To be honest, the biggest concern I have with the Mini 3 are these continuing warnings about signal strength. The Mini 2 is longer in the tooth and I would have hoped that DJI had stabilized the platform a while ago.

I wonder what DJI will take out to make this a “Non-Pro” and if this is just so they can make it more accessible to a bigger market. Maybe it’s a recognition of how difficult it is becoming to fly heavier drones in certain countries. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Not been here for a while, apologies if this is discussed somewhere already although I did look first.

I’m intending to buy a Mini before too long, a Mini 3 Pro. Then the Mini 3 came along. And now there’s a really good offer on Amazon for the Mini 3 Combo with DJI RC controller.

But looking at the specs, am I right in thinking the Mini 3 does very little more than the Mini 2? Just has ability to do pics in portrait as well as landscape?

Mini 3 (non Pro) has a much better camera, takes better photos and videos, especially in low light. And as you mention, the portrait camera format too. The “Pro” has this plus active track, so it can follow you or a subject. It also comes with obstacle avoidance too.
