Your bang on the money mini 2 is good and you don’t need anything to fly it
I was stupid I got the air 2 then found out the updated rules. lol
You could get the Mavic mini 2 don’t need A2 cofc to fly this drone
I had the mini and although it was a very capable drone it felt toy like and hated wind. Its probably because I moved from an inspire to a mini.
I may get a mini at some point but I am more than happy with my mavic Pro.
I got air 2 and mini 2. Mini 2 is a toy with a good camera. I can see how you felt the way you did coming from an inspire.
Mini2 definitely seems to handle better in wind compared to the mini from what I have seen. Its not an m300 but its a very capable bit of kit.
Very true. Amazing for its size
I love my Mini 2. Still learning, especially the fpv mode, and still practicing with aerial photography. Great bit of kit. But not everyone will feel the same. Some will think it’s a toy because it’s so small. But the size is great for travelling overseas for aerial photography abroad. For me, it ain’t a toy, but a great addition for my semi professional photography
The Mini2 is fantastic, most of the DJI range is to be fair, looks like I will be aquiring a Mavic Pro 2 very soon too. Have also booked to do the A2 CofC through the BMFA/British Drone Flyers offer with UAV Academy. https://britishdroneflyers.org/a2cofc
Just Wondering has anybody got any thoughts on the License situation, my thoughts are you can then fly certain drones maybe in your local parks etc obviously subject to certain sensible circumstances, but is it worth shelling out a good few hundred pounds or will you still be restricted a lot, or is it worth just sticking to the very small drones, which I was impressed By Dave’s (Fab1) Mavic I think, mine is a phantom 3 massive Compared to Dave’s so as a newbie get a bit worried if I lost control but I suppose losing control of any Drone would be a worry, what are your thoughts
John
John @Clockmaker I’ve moved your post to an existing thread all about the A2 CofC course.
Pull up a chair, grab a brew and start at the top mate
Hi John, mine is the mini 2 mate now I also started with the phantom 3 pro and having got this one I would never go back to the larger drones.
Regards Dave
Very impressive Dave pictures are very good, as we where saying it’s a better set up than the bigger Drones
Your like me John the flying is just a hobby which gives the added benefit of getting out in the fresh air so again with the smaller drones you can stay away from the need of doing any further courses as I did ask the question if I would benefit of adding any further courses and was advised to keep my money.
I’m sure more will offer some more on this if you decided to go for a drone under the 249g
Regards Dave
The one way it would be good for me to be Licensed is as you know I’m a Clockmaker and some of my work involves Turet Clocks or church clocks but that’s it
Get a Mini 2, no ‘licence’ required even for any commercial work you might undertake
Im thinking you are right, I have just looked through the A2 course, it all ends in 2022 & if I’m reading it right A3 will apply to most of the drones I see ourselves flying, so you aft to be 150 metres away from everything no matter what it all sounds like catch 22, this is why in my opinion these courses drop in price, Get a few Bob then change the rules again, won’t be long before we caint fly a kite
I hold an Operational Authorisation (previously PfCO) so I can do inspection work with my big drone (M300).
However, I also have a Mini 2 because if I just fancy doing a bit of flying, it’s the easiest and most fun option. Mini 2 is a capable drone and I’m slightly annoyed with myself it took me so long to get one. It’s ideal for taking on walks.

Evening All
So I have now upgraded to the Mavic Air 2 and by god I have been having fun. I can see the commercial uses flash before my eyes.
Who has recently done their A2 COFC? From what I can gather you have your online course, some form of certification and some companies throw in insurance etc for good measure. All seem to range between £59 and £99, what I am interested in knowing is who delivers the best course/features/support etc? Quality over quantity.
TIA
Moved your post to this thread that has over 15 months of posts on the subject that will probably provide all the info you need.
