A2 CofC courses

@Speedie

Have a look here…

Cheers Ned - I’ll have a look at that

I did a visual comparison of the two here:

If you stick to recreational and non-urban areas, the A2 CofC doesn’t give you much advantage, but note that the Article 16 Operational Authorisation from FPVUK (and others) can only be used for sport/recreational purposes, and you can’t use automated modes on your drone under it - stick controls only.

There are also big advantages to the A2 CofC if you had a drone in the range 250-500g, but that’s not many people.

Mini and Mini 2 owners with one, some or all of:

Leg extenders
Skins
Prop guards
Strobes

Mavic Air 1 - 430 grams

Maybe Air !'s will increase in value in the light of the sub 500g concessions

Thanks @macspite, good point about the Mini / Mini 2 with add-ons; I’m less convinced that there will be a big secondhand clamour for MA1s, given the capabilities of the Mini 2, but maybe!

Hi @ianinlondon

Are you going to do your GVC too?

I did both my A2 and GVC with UAVHUB (passed the theory, just waiting for lockdown to be over and fair weather for my flight assessment).

I didn’t find the GVC much of a stretch after doing the A2, and I’ve said as much on this forum.

I know you’ve got your PfCO, but as you’ve done such a good job with your overview of the A2, a GVC review might be good for folk…?

You have to show the room your in on the test with camera, Can you use your laptop with built in camera and swing it around the room ?

I did just that with UAVHUB… No problems.

Simple answer, no. I always got annoyed with the pointless complexity of the PfCO and the need for the Ops Manual & flight logs; the A2CofC gives me all the permissions I need. I’m not planning complex flights that don’t fit in the Open Category and as the GVC doesn’t actually give you anything extra, I’m happy to stay with the A2cofc…

That’s exactly what I did.

Matt at UAVHub is certainly not patronising, nor is the quality of the syllabus, in fact it sounds like he’s got more knowledge in his little finger than you & I put together. Well worth the £99.
