Morning
I made a mistake I think buying an M2 Macbook Pro 14-5 inch especially as my eyes are not as good as what they once was even with glasses, ( screen is not big enough I think )
My question is please although the M2 as stated above has a very clear picture I want to upgrade to a bigger screen, tbh I haven’t really got a clue in trying to understand the comparisons to other apple screens / products regarding resolution, refresh rates ppi etc, ( have tried to understand it but my brain fogs )
I’m ready to upgrade but don’t want to make a mistake by going bigger but then maybe although easier for my eyes but then maybe less detail when trying to edit if that makes sense,
Should I buy the new IMac that’s being released which is a 24 inch screen or would there be a notable difference in picture quality compared to what I have all ready ?
Or my original plan a while back was to get the Apple studio display ( not xdr as there serious money ) & pair it with my M2 but then begs the question as my MacBook Pro is xdr would I notice a difference in picture quality if I chose the iMac or standard studio display ?
I’m really torn on what to do don’t really need the laptop as it never leaves the house I’m just trying to get the best of what I can without having to sell a kidney to do it but have a budget for what I’ve listed above,
Just basically want to see what I see on my laptop I have now “ quality wise “ but on a larger screen, id really like to stick with Apple my other thought was MacBook Pro 16.5 inch ” but not the option I really want to do tbh “ last thing I want to do is blow my money then regret it as id not done it the right way,
Would really appreciate some help on the best way to go as I can’t seem to get my head around it so some honest input would be well appreciated as always,
Thank you …
Edit : this is just my fun hobby ( not profession ) so want to keep it to a minimum but with exceptional equipment.
Thanks for the reply Chris
Yes I hear what your saying, bigger display 100% should I go 27 studio Mac & run it off my M2 in clamshell or what do you think about the 24” iMac M4 ( yes not released yet or available till next week ) but would either one of those be an upgrade ? Really appreciate your thoughts which one would you go for ( but ) I’m trying to avoid buying the Mac mini ( why ? ) just trying to keep things a little more simple & keep the cost down but I’m not being tight just want to get it right this time.
That said if you think I’m better off starting the whole package again including Mac mini again id appreciate the honest advice, maybe I’ll sell my M2,
Many thanks
I have the MacBook pro 14" and pair up with a BenQ PD2725U, 4K 27" Monitor. It works great, charges the laptop through the same USB C cable that you use to connect to the monitor. That will be all you need for top quality. I’m a videographer / photographer and can recommend this set-up.
Buying a 2nd-hand 32" 4k monitor that plugs into my much older laptop has been a revelation … and for very little money.
32" might be a little large at times … but it’s a problem I’m learning to live with.. the biggest problem being varifocal glasses means my head has to swivel about an annoyingly large amount at times.
I actually run the monitor at 1,440p nearly all the time … I found at 4k that there was just too much stuff on screen that was no larger to read, etc., than the laptop screen.
Initially I thought the same as my eyes are also on the decline.
However, from a practicality perspective mine is great to throw in my bag as I travel lots with work and it can be used easily on trains and planes etc.
At home I have a small but useful 28 inch curved monitor that cost less than £100.
I can plug it in and use like a desktop and also use the laptop screen as a 2nd screen.
Thank you for the reply - so big screen or small screen so to Spk - are you saying ( for instance ) which I should have mentioned in my first post is - the quality of what’s on an sd card for instance the way I see it on my smaller screen will the quality be the same on a bigger screen or could it become pixelated ? As that was a concern / worry as said I don’t quite understand how that side of things work.
Thank you
Ah right I’m with you ok, definitely a bigger screen is the way forward,
Thank you I was worried id lose detail so with the bigger screen I’m thinking I’ll see more detail & easier to work with as I’ll be able to see better
Thank you for your help is appreciated as everyone’s input.
Actually - this just got me thinking and I’ve improved things for myself.
Yes - Windows - but I can’t imagine similar isn’t possible on Mac (because it makes fundamental sense).
With the large screen set at 4k, I hadn’t realised the font scaling was defined for each screen (years ago I don’t think it was, and I ended up with too large a font on the small screen when it was a sensible size on a large screen … and I’d never tried since. ).
