Altitude Angel are in administration

Regardless of how quick you received your permission, it’s still against what the CAA state.

I see their’s as less about paying to access the airspace and more an idiot/arrogance tax… as my coffee mug says, “A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine”.

(edit: I may be giving away just how often I get interrupted every day with dumb questions! )

Since the demise of Drone Assist, has anybody tried or have been able to enter a NOTAM?
Many Thanks

DeemanWings

Ive submitted notifications on drone assist and they show up on dronescene with no issues

@DeemanWings do you mean a NOTAM? Or do you mean a Flight Report?

If GADC could make a native, well performing app for drone scene and charge a few £ per month..

Like we do now you mean?

Silver membership is just £1.33 a month, which gets you access to Drone Scene and many other club benefits. It’s price of a bottle of milk

Granted, its a web app rather than a native Android or iOS app and the reason for that is simple, we’re yet to receive a quote for a native app that comes in at less than £100,000

(and that was just to build it, never mind maintain it and update it as often as we do, that was another £100k/year)

If you’re on Android @Yezzer you can save a shortcut to the home screen which will give you near-native performance.

… for non-members; full members should get it free!

Apparently, Drone Assist seems to be working normally, at least mine is; an upcoming NOTAM for Cardiff Bay (laser & searchlight display next week) has appeared. I use DA quite a bit for ‘quick checks’; anything more involved and I’ll dig into DS.

Who’s manning it? There’s no staff there… I wouldn’t trust any data coming from it given the current situation.

I’m already a member, and have added the web app to Home Screen on iOS.

Surprised by quotes of that size! I’m a game dev and have worked on many apps over the years. Perhaps it’s a lot more complex than it looks.. usually is

Report of Altitude Angel incorrectly showing flights being approved. Seems potentially dangerous.

One distinct advantage of the current situation .. one less (very rarely used) app on my phone. #WinWin!

Hence my comment from yesterday…

£2/month gets you £5m public liability insurance, no ads on the forum, member discounts. and ad-free access to all the forum features/categories. £2/month!!

If it makes you feel better, just think of the full access to Drone Scene / Good 2 Go that also comes with that £2/month as a ‘free’ bonus. :+1:

Further to the heads up from @Yezzer earlier today, this was published today by CAA:

Following the administration of Altitude Angel, the CAA are aware that, when using Altitude Angel’s services to request permission to fly within a Flight Restriction Zone (FRZ), incorrect notifications may be received . While the future availability of Altitude Angel’s services remains uncertain, the CAA recommends operators contact the relevant aerodrome or airport directly to obtain permission to fly in an FRZ and always check the Aeronautical Information Publication before conducting any flights.

Everyone should be doing that anyway.. Cut out the profit making ( or not so much in their case ) middle man.

Well, I only said it seems to be working, on the basis that the NOTAM I referred to, for next week, has appeared in the last two days, so somebody must have updated it or is at least overseeing it’s running. And, until the present situation resolves itself (and of course it might not), I will be double-checking with Drone Scene before flying anywhere!

DS is undoubtedly the best resource, but DA is, or was, quicker to access, being an app.

FWIW CAA have issued a Skywise bulletin about it today.

Basically yes its a problem. Please dont use Drone Assist for UTM for that reason. Of course if AA had a single responsible person there currently they’d just disable that button on the app.
