Altitude Angel now includes SSSI’s

Just had a look at Altitude Angel and see it now includes SSSI’s. Great swathes of coastal Britain suddenly become off limits to us drone fliers. ( Specially in Scotland, seems a hell of a lot of the coast is SSSI) What do others think about this ? Until they included this info, I’d have flown my drone at the coast, not knowing that it was possibly illegal :open_mouth::open_mouth:

No it doesn’t.

Our very own Dronescene has for ages

Glad to see the lower level apps are following in our lead :joy::joy:

Looks like its a recent update but just checked drone assist and it does bring up SSSI’s. But without National Trusts and recommended flying spots Drone Scene is still the all in one tool to go to

Sorry I know the app shows it now.

I was replying to your final sentence

Ah yeh SSSIs in themselves dont make drone flights illegal and very unlikely near coastlines unless set up for birds etc…

Indeed it is disturbing wildlife that does - which could occur anywhere I guess.

A lot of SSSI are perhaps ground vegetation rather than birds.

Not according to the internet. Apparently in England you must seek the permission of Natural England. Very confusing

It doesn’t say that…

It says this

Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)

Flying may be restricted at some Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) where that flight may disturb animals or wildlife. Check on the web for byelaws or look out for local signs and then follow any restrictions that apply.

The following national authorities provide information on SSSIs:

Agree and the Natural England Website makes it clear for each designated area under what circumstances /operations you would need their approval. For most it will say “Recreational or other activities likely to damage or disturb features of interest.” So provided the flight is unlikely to damage or disturb beatures of interest, no need to seek consent.

Personally, I would rather get my information from the CAA

Not a site run by kids that want your cash :scream:

Looks like the MD likes to keep it in the family
