Just taken my operator and flyer ID test, 39/40 got my operator and flyer ID the wrong way road
Just found this weather kills your batteries, ordered another 3 more batteries to give me 6 already, might get half an hours flying in this weather
Just a few weeks short of getting some great autumnal footage, never mind get some frosty footage now
Better learn how to fly first though
New Forest, Southampton Docks & Solent shorelines sound like good places to start

Hi Lee @Fisher777 and welcome to GADC
Welcome to the Club…I’m Southampton area as well.
As for the New Forest, byelaws are in place… You’re better off just keeping outside the perambulation boundary of the forest itself.
Take a look at the comms I received from the Foresty Commission back in January of this year…
Two problems in cold weather.
If it is moist and below zero you may get propeller icing.
Batteries are less efficient when cold. Best to keep them in an inside pocket next to your body to keep them warm before use and fly vigorously when they are in the aircraft - making them work hard keeps the temperature up.
And a third problem
You.
Keep warm. Keep your hands warm so that you can feel the controls ok. A pair of fishing gloves or similar with opening fingertips work well. Aldi or Lidl have them from time to time or you can find them on eBay:
Most important is to keep them in a warm pocket before flying. Then the current used to fly does a good job of keeping them warmer.
Top is warm day, bottom is cold day.
Difficult to see on the cold day one, but there are coloured lines all the way from the top, descending rapidly, until flying and it warms up and the voltage also rises.
(Those are from my logs, not “somewhere on the internet” - both same day - both the same battery - cold was 5am, warm was 2pm)
Edit: Both were also flying the same …. longish () Litchi mission, too.
Hi Lee - welcome to GADC
thanks man great advice
thank great
thanks
ahh gee iv been a couple of times to beaulieu RAF site just to learn a bit how to use the drone, its nicely out of everyones way. i had no idea as it doesn’t show up on any fly restriction apps i have.
thanks for letting me know.
such a shame its one of the main reasons for getting a drone to see the beauty from above, i spent my whole life trapsing all over the forest
just purchased 2 pairs thanks for the heads up
To be fair you’ll get more interesting footage from around the coastal areas of the forest as I regularly do. Calshot, Lepe, Hurst Spit, Lymington etc. Even though these are covered by the NPA they are outside of the perambulation boundaries, by that I mean at any point you cross over a cattle grid.
Interestingly very recently the BMFC have been stopped from flying at Beaulieu from February to April. But the Foresty folk (not the club) still will not allow drones at the site.
@Fisher777 Hi Lee welcome to the madhouse You’ll love it here!
