DJI never return the kit you sent in mate, it’s a continuous cycle of replacements / refurbs.
Yours will be repaired in due course and sent back out on to someone else who makes a Care Refresh claim

Was it still relatively newly launched at the time?
They repaired one of my CrystalSky’s under warranty (not Care Refresh) years ago, I’m guessing because they’re rare and they probably don’t have hundreds of them sat on a shelf somewhere.
No, and they also return the goggles and controller as they weren’t faulty
