Anything brighter than Strobon CREE LEDs these days?

Damn

The point is there’s no reason not to conform to aviation standards so why wouldn’t you? It costs nothing. Someone somewhere’s made that decision, is there any sound logical reason for choosing that over something more useful?

Because it’s not a product that was made to fit a commercial airliner.

It’s a flashing light stuck to a plastic drone.

Did the led manufacturer even consider someone might try to stick their product on a drone? Who knows? :man_shrugging:t2:

What will you do now?

Will you buy one and risk it anyway? Or seek out an alternative?

Perhaps a marketing opportunity ?

Out of curiosity do the lights on DJI gear meet FAA/CAA regs for flashyness :person_shrugging:

" This product is compatible with the latest FAA and CAA anti-collision lights rules for drones. It can be seen from at least 3 miles at night.
Thats from the Flytron website,

Aviation standards apply to all aircraft not just commercial airliners.

The flashing is nothing to do with the LED manufacturer, it’s the microcontroller which I understand was programmed by Flytron.

Flytron explicitly market it as conforming to FAA and CAA rules and include mounts for drones so it’s pretty clear they considered someone might try to stick it on a drone.

Exactly. Again it has zero cost and lots of upsides. I don’t get PinkSpike is being being narky about this.

Does anyone know the duty cycles of the DJI strobes?

Ticks boxes

I’m not being narky mate. I have no reason to be narky about it. I couldn’t give a fuck if you buy one or not :man_shrugging:t2:

My point was simply, it’s a plastic toy with a flashing light on it. You’re over thinking it.

Wrong. Not thinking at all!

EVERY DJI drone doesn’t, and never has, conformed to any aviation code.

Fixed red lights to the front and a fixed (unless there’s an issue) green at the back?

FFS!

They are referring to visibility/brightness here not cycles.

I’m well aware of that. The issue is these LED boards which seem to have been programmed arbitrarily without any foresight to a feature which may only be useful to a niche few but costs the rest precisely zero.

It’s not a big deal and yes they are just cheapo strobes for plastic toys but it does no harm whatsoever to put some thought into your work.

Have you fed this back to them? They can’t improve it otherwise.

Of course. They gave a great video but no reply regarding this yet.

In answer to this question I think the VIFLY might be but haven’t found anyone who has compared them to the Strobon CREE dual. https://amzn.to/3R9ZwVO

Firehouse Arc V also maybe worth a look? FIREHOUSE ARC "V" DRONE STROBE LIGHT (WHITE) SPOT LIGHT DJI MAVIC AUTEL PARROT | eBay

Has anyone got experience with either of these?

That question was asked over four years ago.

There have been a few threads on the firehouse strobes, try a few searches.

The main thing I was asking about is the VIFLY and couldn’t find anything on a search. Should I start a new thread? This seems to be the most popular one discussing the Strobon CREEs.

I’m sure windswept Robert tested some other strobes but can’t remember what ones. Maybe worth a search on his channel

Any of you guys have these flashing lights for a Mini 2 that can be seen during a dull day? I have no problem seeing the drone in decent light but on a dull, grey day, the Mini’s colour seems to melt with the sky!

Strobon Crees are a great all rounder, for day and night. But I would also recommend wrapping your drone in a bright colour skin for great visibility in the daytime, regardless of conditions.
