Ard Neakie Lime Kilns, Loch Eriboll, Sutherland

A listed landmark in the middle of nowhere that just cannot be missed…

Our hearts and minds see the views, and think this uninhabited place must be wilderness, and yet it was and is a living landscape that humans have inhabited for thousands of years, living in harmony with nature while trying to survive…

The Lime Kilns show that just because a place is remote does not mean it is wilderness or has never been productive…

Lovely, Suzanne. That’s left me feeling quite homesick (in a good way)

Thanks hon… every time we leave Sutherland it is a wrench to the heart - and I haven’t lived there yet, only visited, so I can quite imagine the homesickness…
