Autel Evo II 2 leak - Now not a leak!

I upgrade my Evo firmware today to v2.5.0, just so I could then mod/force it back to v2.3.3

The things I do for you guys :grimacing:

I’m still amazed Autel, DJI, etc don’t want you rolling back. It’s only software after all.

Made notes, took photos, even filmed the lights on the drone so you can see what the lights are doing, the various reboots it does along the way, etc.

Roll-back guide to follow in a day or two when I’ve collated everything.

FYI, Autel have confirmed the drifting bug (which is good news) and it’ll be fixed in the next update.

But they didn’t give me a date for it

I noticed it on the first flight a couple of weeks ago when I visited Scotland. Took it over a loch to get some pictures and started to fly it down the shoreline on the opposite side. I immediately noticed it moving out into the centre of the loch about 30 deg from straight ahead. I thought it might be wind shear but had flown the Mavic 2 the same place and it never deviated. I never flew it for the rest of the trip because I thought there might be an issue with the setup. I didn’t want to waste my time off messing with it, so flew the Mavic for the rest of the trip.

Guide on how to downgrade (it’s really easy):

Thanks Rich. That is really useful.

Autel made a new gimbal cover (as the old style one isn’t the easiest thing in the world to fit).

The only place I’ve found with stock so far, as even the authorised dealers in USA aren’t selling them yet:

If you’re buying from that link, make sure you chose the 6K or 8K one accordingly as they are different.

Ordered on 25th September and arrived today so roughly two weeks on the slow boat from China.

@Joe yours may have come supplied with this new one already?

Well packaged:

New style on the left, old style on the right:

And soooo much easier to fit.

The side-clamps are gone now and replaced with snug rests:

Very easy to fit and remove now.

It’s well engineered, makes you wonder why they didn’t do this from day one :man_shrugging:

I’m loving the raw-ness of Autel. They’re like a young startup company that are still optimising their trade. You’d never know they’d been making drones for as many years at they have, bless 'em

And loving it but not the weather, having to time it to get out and fy without getting soaked. It’s been rock-solid in the high winds I’ve had to fly in. Love it.

Any Autel Evo 2 owners based around North Yorks?

If so, fancy doing a show 'n tell for PC Paul Beckwith?

I said I’d ask and get back to him :+1:t2:

Tagging @Joe @Malcy @ShaunDy @deanjm68 just in case.

Hi, I would have loved to but way down on south coast and can’t think of anyone I know with one in that neck of the woods… good plan though, get the police on board.

I think they’re looking at alternatives to DJI :+1:t2:

They are probably pissed off with DJI NFZs. LOL!

No doubt.

It’s bad enough for us lot doing regular flights away from sensitive areas. Imagine what it’s like for them? They’d be using unlock codes faster than DJI a could generate them :grimacing:

I wondered why the NY Police would be wanting to fly over Yorkshire, until I read the link.

Autel have got on board with this whole DJI-low-noise prop thing:

Alas, auteldrones.com only ship to USA and Canada

So I’ve ordered three sets (i.e. 4x props and 2x spare) from AliExpress for Ā£30.21 including shipping, plus 3.5% cashback on Quidco.

Shameless referral link:
