Nice to see some proper UK impressions from you both. The camera does look mightily impressive.
Ian’s inability to get home in low sunlight due to obstacle avoidance kicking in would be a huge anxiety trigger for me. Especially as i deliberately try to fly in golden hours and often over water.
Will keep an eye on, hoping for improvements, but I guess from Ian’s point of view once this week is over we’ll never really know if firmware improvements fix things. Not sure I trust all the other YouTubers who feel the need to post clickbait videos every few days to try and keep algorithms in their favour because YT to them is a source of income over giving proper well thought out reviews.
Hopefully @diveuk can keep his DJI hatrid to one side when it comes back to further updates.
Again, I’m trying to keep things positive on this drone. It really was just a stiff breeze and it was grinding to a halt. Latest firmware and ‘Speed over quality’ selected for ludicrous mode. This really isn’t great in wind, but of course that ability isn’t necessarily everything. No shortage of warnings, and still got a fair few false obstacle avoidance triggers despite this being flown at midday with the sun right overhead.
Some proper scalpers on Amazon lately, especially daft when places like Scan have stock that you can collect the same day, at the proper price of £859 too.
You are a better man than me. Personally, being able to fly in a breeze, “a normal day”, should be mandatory for any drone. Let alone one costing a right kidney. Customers shouldn’t have to sacrifice basic flying controls for the sake of camera quality.
@speatuk Actually, I’m still trying to access the flight logs. Autel even manage to fuck that up and make it practically impossible to access. Trying to sync with AirData.
The local live weather data at the time was 15 mph winds with gusts up to around 25 mph.
I’ve just watched GavinHR’s wind test with this and frankly my Nano would have just blown away in that. Don’t understand the disparity…
I am trying to stay objective and go on technical and specifics, rather than my simple gut feeling. That simple gut feeling may come out in the end of week review, after I do my side-by-side Mini 2 comparison flight. I’ve actually had some comments that it’s better in strong wind than the Mini2, which again, I find hard to reconcile. I don’t ever want to doubt what another person has tested and posted, but when I see so many crap issues and such poor ability, I just wonder if my particular one is crap… That said, there’s also many other comments reflecting the same experience
This is why we follow you and listen to what you say Ian. You give a complete impartial review. Period.
If it’s good you say the good points if it’s crap you give the crap points.
A lot of the “reviews” everyone sees on YouTube are sided with the manufacture due to the “free” drone to “review”.
I have to say, when i flew mine in 29mph gusts the other day it was not unstable, just slow flying against the wind, the mini 2 definitely handles wind better at the moment. I have seen suggestions on Autel forums that there is a theory that the props are too pliable and comparing the Nano props to the Mini 2 props you can bend them much more.
Got this email today, these are the peeps I got mine from, had a bit of a run in with them because they say 3 day delivery but after I ordered i got an email saying they were out of stock and my order was being shipped from China, long story short, it was with me in 9 days.
