Sent them an email yesterday…Stating that on Sat 6th November between 9 am and 4 pm around 24 of us will be flying over Portland Harbour and surrounding Countryside and that we will be following the CAA rules.
Still waiting for an answer…
I await the Portland Harbour reply with interest,
Got an email from the Port Police
Thank you for your email correspondences regarding you wanting to fly a Drone.
Unfortunately as we hold Military Assets within the Port, making a no fly zone, in accordance with MOD Drone Policies and there is a 150 metre Secure Area as directed by Government relating to ISPS ships, we are unable to give you permission to fly and if you do so may be liable to prosecution.
Amusing
Does it show up as a No Fly Zone on the Drone Scene Map ???
Will have to look.
So, they probably have no idea themselves, but this is the relevant legislation:
Article 11 covers the “restricted areas” for a port facility. You could be arrested if you go into one.
But (surprise!) there is no restriction on overflying.
I looked on Drone Scene and the only Red Zones are the 2 prisons that are RED and a Hellypad that is Brown…Am I looking at the right area ? cos i can’t see any reason not to fly there.
So far as any of us can tell, there are no legal restrictions on flying in this area.
If a copper wanted to stop you, they could refer to section 58 of the Terrorism Act though.
That old chestnut ;o)
Yes you are
Don’t try saying that out loud in front of the wife.
Don’t try doing it quietly behind her either.
That is where I joined my first RFA the Gold Rover in Mar 1985, oh fit and healthy I was then
You are aware that these RFA’s have arms aboard and can also legally shoot down unknown drones, just a thought whilst flying so near to one, I would hate for you to lose your drone
Wasn’t a drone

Wasn’t a drone
A Huawei P20 Pro, by any chance?

Taken from the top of a tall ladder
Sounds like the old case of “better to ask forgivness than permission”!
Sure the navel vessels do represent a genuine security hazard but as long as you stayed over 150m away and didn’t overfly, then I cant see how the harbour could interfere.
