I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:
Land owner permission not required.

Public right of way
Treat the the sign that says no model aircraft with the contempt it deserves
The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 22/09/2023. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location.

First encounter with a “You are not allowed to fly a drone here”.
By a guy holding a DJI Drone [Mavic 3 Pro] !
Walking through Banstead Heath, on a public right of way, which is common ground where I had already checked the by-laws.
Spotted a person carrying a drone - “Hi, any good places to fly as I have brought my drone as well?” … DJI: “You are not allowed to fly a drone here.”
Me: “Em, ok I have read the bye-laws”
DJI: “I have permission, but you are not allowed to fly here”.
A very short conversation was then held where I just wanted to carry-on walking. I was polite but at that point, I just carried on mentioned bye-laws and low weight more than once.
There is a sign saying no model aircraft on the some bridleways at the end of the common area.
- Legal right of way Yep
- Bye-laws - Nothing, Well a little racist as I am part gypsy.
Byelaws
- I had of course had a spotter with me - photos as proof.
No one bothered me whilst flying.
