I did wonder if this was a possibility but I think the CA glue has done the job. Gonna leave it overnight to cure fully and give it a test

No. It’s jizz. But didn’t want to be too crude
Would make a better lubricant than an adhesive

Bit of a different solution, if you want something that will retain the flexibility then have a look at something like Beaver Aquabond, it’s what is used to attach the seals on drysuits and that for diving, very strong & weather resistant but stays flexuble.
