That was the other thing I was going to say when I asked on here before , I was to told you need cellular to get your maps , apparently if you stick a PAYG sim in you don’t even have to top it up and gps works or tether I think off your phone
Yes that’s right , I have a free pay as you go sim in but it’s not registered I just got the card and put it in but it needs a card in the slot to switch the gps on and it works faultlessly and has done for over 2 years . Or as you say you can WiFi hotspot it to your phone but that costs you data .
Actually your maps can be cached before leaving home without connecting to the bird, so no need for cellular or hotspot, tablet/phone can stay in Airplane mode out flying.
Connect to you WiFi open up dji fly app click connection guide click camera view top right corner click Google maps bottom left, locate the area your flying, zoom in for more detail which will automatically save to cache, also at the same time click to satellite view and same again it will download to cache.
Switch to airplane mode and all the updated map needed is available. Fly safe
Its no different to using the DJI RC, just download the map beforehand or hotspot to your phone like the @ziceman et al say.
Can anyone let me know if Huawei mediapad M5 works with the Dji fly app. Looking for an affordable 8 inch tablet to use with the controller.
I’ve looked online but different sites are saying different answers
Thanks
I’ve got the mediapad m5 lite and I’ve had absolutely no problems, really good battery life to compared to my iPad mini 5 , mine is a couple of years old now but still works perfectly.
Thanks, that’s just the news I was wanting.
I cannot say for if it’s different being new now but but if they are still the same it’s good
I also use the mediapad M5, no problems with DJI Fly or Litchi. Can be picked up for peanuts, I got mine from CEX
Do you use the cable that comes with the control? or will I need a longer one?
Thanks
The one that comes with the controller is fine.
you sure, on my mediapad M5 the usb on the tablet is top left and the standard cable didn’t reach
Will get a pic tomorrow
Mmhhhh, mine is deffo fine. Maybe slightly different models? Usb on mine is bottom centre
I’ll show you mine in a min
If i do need a longer cable, do you have a link please?
This is the one I purchased

Hi All,
Unfortunately I dont post too often due to hectic work schedule, but I do check the site daily to see whats going on. I am approaching retirement and I intend to get more drone time as I have been neglecting my fleet.
Currently I use the Huawei 8" tablet with the 2k screen, which is great, but the eyes are getting iffy so want to move onto an 11" screen, so have been on the lookout.
Originally looking at the Samsung S9+ but just couldnt convince myself to hit the “buy” button.
So been searching around and have found the following on Amazon which gets some good reviews, and was wondering if anyone on here is curretly using this device:
Would be interested on thoughts on this tablet. Spec looks good and with a 2.5K screen should give impressive pics and video.
But the concern is around how it will handle DJI Fly app.
Thanks all
