Bewildered newbie in Nottinghamshire

Hello from Nottinghamshire,
Just got my first drone and getting to grips with all the things that need to be done before i take it out and become operational. I have been watching YT for my education and familiarisation with rules and regs. But as some are a couple of years old, they might not still be relevant. I am coming to this from a background of being a hobbyist landscape photographer and am looking forward to the opportunities that not being stuck on the ground will open up. I’m guessing this isn’t the section to ask questions so I will look around for the newbies sub forum

Have you seen our members map? (Click the burger-menu in the top right) You may find some pilots living near you. Feel free to add yourself to the members map too :+1:t2:

We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.

I tried to use the members map, but got a message that said it was only available to members and that i might need to upgrade my membership. I could also see a huge list of members with their posting stats, but no map that i was able to find

Hi Ray and welcome to Grey Arrows, I will second the Drone Scene map as a great resource, and the forum is a safe place filled with helpful folks who will aid with any questions, so ask away - there are no dumb questions, we have all been at that starting point and unsure of what the regs and rules are :slight_smile:

There’s an amazing amount of current info available in the extensive number of threads on the forum. The search function will be your friend here - have a play with it and I think most your concerns will be covered - but if you have an unanswered issue ask away - loads of experienced flyers ready to help :+1: :+1: :+1:

Welcome Ray, you won’t find a better place for anything drone than right here, there’s no drone police to pull you up on anything, just a lot of good folk with lots of info.

Have you looked for Ian in london’s YT channel,

@Raider , thanks for your response, I’ve watched a few of his, in part his comparison of the mini with the Mavic in windy conditions persuaded me to stump up the extra cash, as i expect to be flying in coastal areas frequently, which are often quite breezy
