Birch Coppice, I worked down the pit in the early 80s called that. It was on the A5 near Tamworth. Is this the same place (obviously newer)
That’s the one. It’s a good reuse of the old Birch Coppice Colliery site.
The A5 (Watling Street) is the far side of the industrial units. The single track rail line that feeds the container part of the complex uses the old Kingsbury Colliery line.
I will get some shots of Baddesley Colliery’s re-purposing.
Need to get some shots of the Ocado site or Euro CarParts T2 as them building are MASSIVE !
The building in this photo by the containers is the VAG (VW /Audi Group) contract - Ceva logistics
Very cool location - been meaning to do something similar - a mate hiked up the big hill / mound and got some awesome footage off his Mavic Air 2 some time back.
I keep looking at the pit mound and must take a walk up there.
Some of the units on the site are mega size!
maybe next week or the following I might take a hike up that mound if the weather is a bit more decent than it is currently.
Let me know when you plan to go hill climbing.
I may be able to join you.
There are no actual footpaths over the mound that I could see on the O.S maps.
Where would you plan to get access?
Wow! how things have changed since the early 80’s and Maggie started shutting the pits.
It’s a good image tho and I look forward to more!
@Clive.R or @LE60LAD is there anywhere decent to dump the car without getting it towed away to go up the mound/hill? Even before I got a drone I was keen on getting up it but was never sure where to dump car and hill bagging site indicates it’s not an easy ascend.
Give me a day or so and I will ask a mate of mine who has been up there a few times to fly. He did tell me but I have forgotten.
The estate is privately owned and well monitored.
If you don’t mind a nice mile ish walk you are welcome to park at my house.
I have done it but the lane to Freasly from Wood End is a “green lane”
so decent boots would be advisable.
I reckon it is a tad steeper than it looks!
The other one to try is the mound overlooking Kingsbury Link.
It is M.O.D. land with public footpaths. Its easy access and again you can park outside our house.
I have lost signal there once or twice over the years, don’t know if there is a geofence around the boundary.
It is only M.O.D. because it is where the squaddies wayward bullets could land when firing at the rifle range!
My Friend didn’t park as it’s walking distance from his house in Wood End. There’s a path from Boulters Lane, which runs across fields and then along the narrow strip between the container freight yard and the railway line. It’s not that clear on satellite view. There’s a gated crossing over the railway, which was open when he went up, but on other times he has done the walk it’s been closed. He climbed the mound from the gated entrance on Ansley Hall Drive. That was shut too, but there’s no fence so you can walk around it. He did suggest trying the parking on either side as you enter Jim Casey Way, and walk from there. He does not think there will be any restrictions on that.
Thanks for the tips guys. If I get chance to give it a go before I go back to work, I’ll obviously post back!
