I’m thinking of getting a used ipad Mini 4 ready for when I get my Air 2. When I read the Air 2 manual it says to make sure you have a cellular with a data plan - that kinda makes sense but I haven’t seen anyone on here mention that so can anyone confirm (or refute) that if using an iPad it needs to be Wifi + cellular?

I can’t imagine so, I fly my Mini (Fly App as well in airplane mode)

Likewise, also always fly in airplane mode.

You’ll need data for maps or flight record syncs, unless you pre-cache the maps or simply don’t use maps (I don’t use maps but it’s a personal thing).

You’ll need GPS on the iPad, and therefore a Cellular model (because WiFi-only iPads don’t have a GPS chipset) if you plan on dynamically updating the Home Point.

I also fly in airplane mode got a wi fi iPad mini 4 never had any problems

Thanks for the replies. As a newbie it can be confusing as I was quoting from the Air 2 owners manual under the section regarding the controller page 40 and here it says
Mobile cellular is required when using the DJI Fly app
Pleased to hear that it’s only needed if you want full functionality but can be used without.

I think they want it to check the firmware is upto date etc before flying.
