A random meetup seems to be happening. ![]()
That’s how we got a helicopter rescued at our club, used my big quad to release a line with a weight the far side of the branch, then with two burly guys on each end of the line they were able to swing the branch so hard that the 'copter dropped out.

That’s pretty much my plan .. but using the MP to get the weighted line over the relevant branch.
You have probably already thought of this - have you looked at the flight log on the RC? / Your mobile? You can then download the log to AIRDATA UAV site to replay the flight. It will show all activity and warnings etc during the flight. Just mentioning this in case the drone or software is at fault. Several people have been sucessful usng this method in dealing with DJI. On his site on YT “Ian in London” has a good video explaining this. Anyways good luck gettng your drone back down from that tree.
No, Obstacle Avoidance is not perfect, and will likely not see thin branches, power lines etc. However, that Tree looks well populated with leaves etc, you could argue that it should have avoided it. Got nothing to lose by trying eh!
Good luck Tomorrow, Hope all goes well
Pay £100 to get it retrieved, not that much.
Spend £40(Or look in your garage area for an old bike, old broom handle and old inner tube), Fill a sock with half a bag of rice, Get some rope, Get your drone, Use rice to make some lunch.
Use two types of rope. One thick and one thin. Fire using the thin rope, Then pull through the thick rope to allow extra pulling force without breaking your line.
OK - see you there tomorrow - you can demonstrate.
It’s sat there pleased as punch swinging on the branch!! I had a look this afternoon hoping the wind might have done the hard work, but sadly not! The ground underneath is quite soft deep grass, so I hopeful that if we do knock it out, it’ll be undamaged. ![]()
To be honest I am quite overwhelmed by this reaction. What community spirit!
It is one thing G A D C is about. We had @clinkadink go fetch our drone for us. Appreciated it and still do.
Thanks for showing me this Andy. I’ve looked in Device management and see this is where the Aircraft flyaway report is generated from. If our attempt at rescue tomorrow doesn’t work then I’ll set this in motion. DJI has said it can action a data analysis report if I wish.
Thankyou Gordon. I watched this and is very useful info. The problem I have had up to now is connecting my RC2 to my iMac. it doesn’t want to know. I have tried open MTB, and Android File Transfer, neither of which are able to transfer the files to my iMac. The controller is just not recognised. The only way I have at the moment is to take the Micro SD card out and copy image and video files. On the controller I have accessed the flight files and the last one in particular but I don’t see any way to copy it anywhere. In Ian in London’s video he talks about DAT files that can be seen when connected to your computer. It shows all the detailed records of the flight. I have no idea where or how to access this at the moment, not until I find a way to connect the controller to the iMac
@Nikonitis, it would be really useful if you could share the Airdata logs for this issue, it’ll help people provide you with a more detailed answer based on what actually happened.
If you’re not familiar with Airdata it’s an independent platform that allows you to aggregate your flight records and it also allows you to share logs with other people.
Here’s a guide on how to upload your flight logs to their web site / app:
Setting up Direct DJI Sync
Once your logs are visible in Airdata you can use this guide to share the log(s) in question:
Once you’ve created the share on the Airdata web site simply reply here and paste the URL, someone will then take a closer look for you.
We’ll have a crack at throwing a line over (with a drone) and giving it a tug. I think that’s plan!
As I understand it I have to be able to download the flight data to my computer, something I am unable to do as my iMac doesn’t recognise the RC2 controller. I have tried at least 2 different apps, open MTB and Android File transfer, neither of which work. Not sure what else to try. I am always very wary of online apps for accessing info on my iMac.
Radio silence is your friend.
