I was meant to be going on a 5 day photography workshop tour on 5th May 2022, until Russia invaded the Ukraine.
Everything paid for (flights, accommodation, insurance, etc…)
Loads of research completed - books read, documentaries watch (even Russian YouTube videos with subtitles)
I’d even started to learn the language, so that I could interact with some of the resettlers, so I could get some portrait photos and day to day life images.
Would love the opportunity to go, if the possibility came around again.
Only trouble is, I’ve already spent the money I’d been refunded on a photography workshop tour of the Greek island of Santorini and my first drone.
If the tour take place, please share the footage and photos.
I’d love to go to Pripyat just to see it, even without flying Duga. But how safe it is now is anyones guess.
How many mines have been laid in that area after the Russian Numps went through is no longer known? Plus they dug trenches and spread a load of radioactive ground material pretty much everywhere.
I’m not saying I wouldn’t go, but with an ongoing war, the plant being a stones throw from Belarus and the unknown quantity of how radioactive everything is now, it’s not something I would do until a year or so after the war ended. When stalkers are re-entering the zone (as cliched as that sounds), or Shiey posts a new incursion video, then I would be happy taking a tour. For now, it’s not worth the risk. there are far too many rogue variables.

One day we will have our meet
Gosh! That prog is years old.
I read the most amazing book about the Chernobyl incident and its aftermath last year. I couldn’t put the bloody thing down!
The author won a number of awards for his investigative background on the disaster.
I’m not usually a book reader but I think I’ll grab a copy of that just found it on Amazon - different cover but I’m guessing it’s the same book .
That’s certainly it… Trust me, you’ll really enjoy the read.
I’ve watched some interesting documentaries about the Duga ‘ Russian Woodpecker ‘ captured in that video. Albeit it is some miles away from Chernobyl itself.
