Cold weather FPV flying

Does anyone brave the cold weather and go outdoors and fly? Debating if to charge a few packs and go for a spin but tomorrows temp in London at 10am is -1c. Suppose less dog walkers would be a bonus and nice frosty scenes but is it worth the pain.

In Manchester that’s summer time

If cold and dry air shouldn’t be a problem, the only prob I’ve had is when I went out the other day I use an iPad, when I left the car it had 44% charge, by the time I set up it was showing just 1%. The drone battery’s were ok. I did Risk putting up my little mini 2se in light sleet also again without issue (it was only up in that weather for about 10 min. It was also quite windy. When finished I didn’t fold it away, dried with a cloth and left open to dry. If air on damp side you risk icing on props, that wouldn’t be good, though it’s not affected me yet. However I have been restricted to 200 ft by ATC. At 400 ft could be a degree or so colder than your take off point. I’ve not noticed any drop in no of dog walkers.

More like a good waterproof.:sunglasses:

Sorry missed the FPV bit just read as cold weather flying.

But you still have a point about the batteries

Snowy flying is fun…

Just take care as regards the wetness. Also cold batteries are really bad.

I got one of these…

I got cold just watching that! Stunning footage and great flying.

I flew a few packs at the weekend.
Mostly as I’d got a few new batteries to try out.

I keep the batteries in my warm pockets before flying and have had no real issues apart from slightly lower flight times and it being a bit cold

Make sure batteries are full and you wrap up warm. Also, as I found, do not fly in freezing fog. I wanted to go above the mist over my house, but got a motor overload. Got it down and there was ice on the blades!

Have you got any footage of your quad up in the clouds, I take it your flying FPV. Southern softie me, have opted to stay indoors until it gets warmer, haven’t got the balls!

Wednesday temp is looking good :cowboy_hat_face:
