CPU error message

I am an amateur flyer who has just encountered an error message that I have never seen before and wondered if someone would be kind enough to help me please. I hadn’t flown my Mavic Mini for a couple of months and so charged everything up, including my iPad Mini 4, and set off. And not only was the screen view awful, as can be seen, but it only updated about every 30 seconds. The height and distance didn’t update and although the distance shown on the image reads 1492ft I have just measured it using Magic and in fact it was 216 metres (708ft)

But the real worrying bit is the error message that can be seen in the top left of my screen all of the time. I have never encountered this before and if anyone can help at all I would be very grateful. My apologies if this is a really stupid question.

I found the iPad mini 4 was struggling to run the then current version of the app about a year ago, so upgraded to a mini5

Thank you @MartG1960 for your quick response. I have never encountered any problems as drastic as this with my mini iPad since I bought both the drone and the iPad over 2 years ago. I did buy the iPad s/h but I also use it for surfing the 'net periodically as well and it works as it should in that role.

There are many reports of people struggling with slow response from the iPad Mini 4 using the Fly App. Did you do any Fly App updates before your recent problem flight ?? Believe as additional drones and functions have been added the demand on processing power has increased. It may be worth checking to see how much storage memory you have free - if its only minimal then the iPad will struggle to function. You may need to delete/offload some items from onboard storage (photos videos etc) to gain better performance. You also need to make sure that no other apps are running in the background stealing the processing power. HTH.

I was just about to add my unsolicited opinion when I read John’s (@Jhdee ) advice. Certainly check whether you have any apps running abd check to see what else is in the background that the system may be running without your interaction.

The sad truth is that as apps develop more and more bloat the hardware has to be upgraded even if you don’t wish to use all the features of the software. I don’t need lovely animations, guides on how to connect my aircraft, photo galleries and the rest that DJI Fly offers, if that is taking up CPU power as well it’s annoying. Without firing up Fly I can’t remember if any of these features can be turned off.

Thank you John @Jhdee , that was very helpful. I have recently started with my first iPhone (because Vodafone packed up their Sure Signal capability) and discovered that there were far too many apps working away in the background shortening my battery time and so maybe I have something like this on the iPad. I’m a DOS and then Windows man really !

My iPad min is purely for flying so everything is turned off or has been remove. I have at most 4 Apps on it, works like a dream.

Thank you @macspite for your help. I quite agree with your sentiment about not needing all the fancy apps that are now available. Maybe it’s O.K. if some people want to spend their lives walking along the streets using their iPhone and bumping into lamp posts while playing games on their 'phones. I was in our local medical centre recently and 8 people waiting to see someone and 6 were on their mobiles ! Plenty of newspapers and magazines to read for goodness sake.
Sorry - rant over.

Thank you @Njoro. My iPad has always worked perfectly until yesterday. I need to get the spanners out methinks.
p.s. Is there a way to give a public thanks on this Forum to contributors. I can see a blue bell icon on the right but I’m guessing that is to send an alert to the Mods ?

Hit the little heart at the bottom or press and hold for more options.

As others have said the iPad Mini 4 will and has indeed stuggled to cope with the fly app for quite some time. I remember when I got my Mini 2 back in Jan 21 I had an old iPad Mini 2 whiich I knew wouldn’t cope so asked what iteration I’d need for error free flights and was told the Mini 5 was the only one that coped reliably. That was back then. Rather than spend out on a Mini 5 I went Android instead. Move on 14 months and about 7 or 8 updates to teh fly app and it’s probably worse than it was then.

It may be worth you switching over to Android. It’ll certainly save you a few quid on the purchase of a second hand iPad Mini 5 or 6. A Huawei Mediapad Lite 8 inch is about £159.00 new so it might be worth considering. Screen is better IMO as well

Yeah because the FLY app is perfect on there :person_shrugging:

The tablet is stable enough. It’s the app that isn’t, but then again it’s not on iOS either.

Never had an issue on iOS with it, but then again its signed by Apple. Didn’t Google stop DJI using the Play store after some dodgy shit.

Find a version that works for you and stick with it (doubley more so on Android)

Or don’t use software from unreliable sources like DJI.

Thank you @Njoro I didn’t mean to click the laughing one. I can’t see a Thank You one though. Maybe Clap Hands will do ? :grinning:

Thank you @OldSoulBoy Very useful info there. Sorry about the emoji. I’ll get used to it one day !

Thank you @macspite :clap:Seems that I have to get on the learning curve again.

Litchi much better

I’ve been thinking, always a dangerous thing for me to do. The error message says that the mobile device cpu is fully loaded. I always assumed that this meant the Mini. Could it mean the iPad ? I was doing screen recording on the iPad at the same time as using the screen to interface with the drone. I flew again today and while it was all slightly better I still lose control after much more than 6-800ft distance.
