Darnit, Mighty Midge needs to go back to DJI as I am an idiot, and I won't get him back for our Orkney holidays!

Hi
you probably want sub-250g but if useful to you there’s an AIR2S available in Nuneaton

Thanks, the UPS note still estimates for 1200 tomorrow, have agreed with hubby if it doesnt arrive then we will stop enroute to Tongue to pick up a new drone from Currys… We have a night stop at Tongue with friends, and a day exploring Sutherland before getting the ferry on Saturday evening…

Thanks for the comment and kind words, I want to go back to Manchester and lay the ghost of the crash to bed and get more late evening footage, but think I will leave it a few weeks yet…

Thank you for the offer… Hopefully my replacement will arrive tomorrow, then I need to work on hubby for a second drone - larger and better in wind - to give us options should it happen again…

Aaaand relax… Mighty Midge the second has arrived even 10 minutes before the estimated delivery time, and has flown a test flight, all systems are go and the Orkney holiday is now looking like a much better prospect!!! I am sooo relieved…

Yay, Scotland tomorrow, Orkney on Saturday and I have my Midgie to try and take some epic footage

Thanks all for holding space, for the encouragement, condolences and everything else, it has been a stressful week, and the forum has helped to make it much less so

DJI have pulled a blinder, form notification on Tuesday morning to replacement arriving today it has been 48 hrs, an amazing turnaround and service, hats off to them, I am very impressed…

TBH their support has always been excellent when involved, and sometimes go over and above! Happy flying…

Great news, just hope the weather stays nice for you now!!! Look forward to your videos, expecially now I’ll be able to watch them at home from the new broadband without stopping every 5 seconds :grinning:

Heh my better half just got 500/500 for £24.95 from Zooommmm… Better than their 25-30 which cuts out all the time!

Excellent news, have a great time, and look forward to the results. I had an interesting discussion with Howard about what might happen if you take off and fly out over a cliff more than 400’ high, which I assume would be the case at the Old Man of Hoy. Probably worth increasing the max height for such a flight?

Thanks, yeah, weather has been great this week, next week looks a little more mixed, ut I shall take advantage of the light evenings until late and hopefully getting something memorable…

Max height is max above the take off point, so flying out over the cliffs shouldnt make the drone descend, but once 50 ft out from the cliffs I should descend, but I will have to have a think… tbh I think it will be what it will, I wont be flying 400ft up from the TOAL point atop the cliffs, but it will very much depend on the bird life and the winds, I may not be able to fly the Old Man, which would be a shaem, but we shall see…

If you have an epic windless day you should be OK there, and if you get to Yesnaby it will be a good practice point with a smaller seastack.

Here’s the Old Man from the ferry to Stromness

It’s not surrounded by water, but I wouldn’t want to clamber down if I have an unscheduled landing …

While I was on the edge of the cliff I made this spherical pano with my phone

Good luck, and take care!
