Heads up - 18.0.4 needs a reboot on Win10.

Too much happening on my laptop for the moment - luckily not needed immediately.

For us hobbyists, I very much doubt there’s an iota of difference. :stuck_out_tongue:

Had to upgrade the RAM x 3 to 24MB in hubby’s laptop - mine is supplied by work and definitely isnt powerful enough to run Resolve - but have to say it is an amazing bit of software… Does everything I need and at a price my yorkshireman husband is happy with - free

Apparently Resolve is soon to be available for iPad Pro.

That’s great news - wonder if it’s a separate license or will need to buy a 2nd one

Studio comes as a 2-install license.

Nice - can start to use it on the move on the iPad rather than having to use the MacBook at home.

Great news

Has to be the new iPad Pro with the M2 chip, it seems.

Mines last years so rules me out

Nothing overly exciting - mainly fixes. (Needs Windows Restart!)

What’s new in DaVinci Resolve 18.1.1
• Support for Blackmagic RAW SDK 2.8.
• Preferences option to manually set display scaling on Windows.
• Addressed an issue with incorrect clip thumbnails on some systems.
• Addressed keyboard shortcuts for switching primaries.
• Addressed an issue rendering MXF clips with embedded captions.
• Addressed audio drops and artefacts when using voice isolation.
• Addressed audio clicks when monitoring after changing EQ type.
• Addressed a Text3D issue with characters with intersections.
• Addressed an issue importing tracking data in Fusion.
• Addressed an issue evaluating Group or Macro tool expressions.
• Addressed an issue with Text+ on old CPUs.
• General performance and stability improvements.

Manually set display scaling in Windows - might be interesting. I’ll report back when I find out more.

I think this is to do with the way footprints of the various sections of a tab can vary, depending on display resolution (minimum area / relative areas / font size [for ease of reading]) - and some users (with dedicated DR machines) change the window scaling in settings to get their preferred environment for DR.
But this, on a machine used for other things, can screw with how other things look.
I’m anticipating this will mean that the overall setting can be set for everything else as normal, with a “within DR only pseudo setting” available.

TLDR

The way this might be of interest to me (:crossed_fingers:) is that I’m wanting a larger monitor, way ahead of getting a new laptop, and not decided which resolution to go for.
Currently my laptop only goes to 1920x1080 - so even my idea of asking (in Currys, or similar) if I could connect my laptop to a screen on display to see how DR looks, is really limited as to what it will tell me when I get a laptop that can properly display 4k.
This setting might allow emulation of a higher 16:9 screen. :crossed_fingers:
The fact that I may go for an extra wide monitor may still pose a “preview” step too far.

Anyway - will investigate later. Just installed 18.1.1. :+1:

Of course - this feature might also be of use to anyone with a small (physically) high res screen struggling to read tiny fonts, and perhaps having to change system setting.

OK - well, lesson learned. Check what it really does before babbling - except for …

… where I can imagine it may be useful.

The setting is under Preferences …

image

… in the User section on the first tab …

Options are : Auto (default) / 100% / 150% / 200%

Shame there’s not options <100% for what I was really hoping for.

For sure - using 200% on my laptop - the initial splash window was wider than my screen - and the Edit tab hilariously unusable!

I’ll have to contact Blackmagic directly - or one of the YouTubers - to see if the default screen layouts can be posted for different screen resolutions.

Two pieces of good news - for iPad owners.

  • It’s been released in Beta for invited users
  • M1 iPads seem work pretty well, too!

No date on general release as yet.

Nothing significant - just a few bugs.

No PC restart needed (for me, at least).

I did have a weird issue after updating where it complained Fairlight was a different version in the library in the project manager (although it worked fine).
In the end a complete uninstall then reinstall seemed to fix it. Might have been a one off and to be fair the setup was likely due a cleanup anyway.

Capture

Nothing for the average user …

What’s new in DaVinci Resolve 18.1.3

• Support for new Sony Venice 2 formats.
• Ability to pick color in Fusion glow, soft glow, and highlight tools.
• Improved performance for Text+ when set to zero opacity.
• Improved mixed resolution UI handling for audio effect dialogs.
• Proxies from vertical clips now preserve aspect ratio.
• Copying grades to compound nodes now honors keyframe alignment.
• Addressed cache invalidation for changes to Fusion background media in.
• Addressed ARRIRAW decode issues on Mac systems with multiple GPUs.
• Addressed excessive memory usage with interlaced rendering.
