Digital FPV.....DJI vs HDZero vs Orqa vs Walksnail vs openhd.....?

The one thing they need to get on top of now is getting enough manufacturing power to supply everyone. In my opinion this is the one thing holding them back slightly although its worth mentioning that most manufacturers are having issues keeping stock on the shelves at the moment

Just in time for the maiden of my first HDZero build…

First impressions are good - very similar to dji.
Not quite as crisp as footage from an air unit but miles above analogue and DVR is quite similar, maybe a little more blocky.

Its gonna get interesting as this develops - would love to see dji pick up the challenge

A goggle release without any VTX’s?

Well I can use them with my analog stuff until the VTX’s become available Oh wait, there’s no composite input.

Never mind, with those 1080p OLED’s Netflix will look lush. Ah, no HDMI input.

Personally I wasn’t impressed with the video quality, it looked flat, washed out, and low resolution. Granted DVR combined with YouTube is not the best way to showcase, but the 720p DVR output of the DJI goggles is leagues ahead with regard to video quality.

I don’t think DJI users will be swapping over in great numbers anytime soon. Digital users that don’t use DJI are probably already invested in HDZero.

At this moment in time, and based on the product placement reviews on YouTube, to be competitive Fatshark/Walksnail may need to have a rethink on their pricing structure.

Watched a few of the Walksnail/FatShark/HDDominator V2 (whatever) videos last night and I’m not totally gutted jumped onto DJI bandwagon in last month or so, and HDZero whilst loving the “company” and people behind it, just doesn’t have the penetration.

Yeah maybe V3 DJI will make me cry, but I got good price, and as long as Vistas made for a while, we good

Great for the hobby and the avatar/walksnail thing does look nearly on par with DJI (though the washed out ground effect?! Seriously, blur the sides, not the bottom guys!) They will be able to develop and push it on though, which DJI don’t. So yeah it looks like no where near as bad a launch product as we feared a month or so ago when that first JB video hit at rampage! Impressed. Well no AV input though is a bummer

I have to say as a new launch product it hasn’t hit the ground running but when the 50mb mode is finally working I expect image quality to improve dramatically (just fly DJI in 25mb and 50mb mode and compare the difference). I agree the image looks washed out compared to DJI too but again I would expect at some point to have camera adjustment that should solve that issue. As @Nidge has pointed out, releasing the goggles without the VTX’s being ready is just a ridiculous thing to do and certainly wont score them any points with any potential buyers :exploding_head:Im slightly disappointed at the launch but still have high hopes for some decent improvements over time :crossed_fingers:t2:

Anyone here actually ordered the new system?

Pretty sure @SirGunner finger is hovering

It was hovering until the initial excitement wore off and they did the Rampage reveal with a half finished product lol Although Im still very interested if and when they make the necessary improvements

Because of the 1080p display / over the air link?

Initially that was a pull but the more I think about it 720p live link is fine really but if its a DJI quality product but with HDZero customer interaction (listening and implementing good ideas and improvements like they are promising) plus lower latency etc. Not to mention that DJI could potentially drop support and production of vistas at any point

And here in lies the problem. It’s becoming more common for manufacturers to intentionally release products before the features they promised have been implemented. Not to mention releasing products that haven’t been fully evaluated before launch and expecting the buyers to complete the Beta testing. However Fatshark/Walksnail are supplying a product that at this moment in time can’t even be used, which is going from the sublime to the bloody ridiculous. It will be interesting to see if the vtx’s are available to purchase this weekend as promised.

They are available from RotorRiot as from yesterday. Not sure about UK stockist yet

I actually found Ian’s take on the “Is it, or is it not, DJI” conundrum, due to the contradicting ASIC labelling in the Fatshark/Walksnail goggle, interesting.

Are there shenanigans afoot?
