DJI Account Binding 2nd Hand Drone

I’ve been considering a purchase of an AIR2s to add to my fleet.

Been looking off & on for a few months via the classifieds here and also on eBay.

Obviously on here I can trust that the poster knows the ins and outs of the drone they are selling as it’s a dedicated drone users forum but on eBay, the first questions I always ask are:

“Is this your own drone?”

“Is this drone bound to a DJI account?”

“If it is bound, are you able to unbind it?”

It probably will not surprise many here when I say that I am often met with silence when asking this.

If I do receive a reply it is usually

“What is that, I do not know what you are talking about”

or

“Yes it is but I am unable to unbind it and it doesn’t matter, you can still fly it without any problems”

Just wondering how many others have come across this and how many unsuspecting people have purchased bound drones

I have only ever seen the very rare occasion where a seller has either put something in the description or shown in an image that the drone is unbound, those I know are trustworthy sellers and probably members on here or other like forums.

I bought my Air2s from a member here, just wait until one comes for sale on here. On a personal note I absolutely love mine, also it can now be certified to C1. (Mine’s done) Here’s a photo from mine

Hi,

yeah, I’m in no rush.

Interesting you say about C1 cert, thought that was only EU at the mo, thought UK have to wait til Jan 2026 to see what CAA & DofT come up with.

You could have a look on mpb. Though you need to be aware of prices. I recently bought a Mavic 2 pro from them and all good also looks like new. However when looking for a GoPro for my daughter it was cheaper to buy the latest edition new direct from GoPro.

Yeah, been looking there too and you’re correct about the pricing on some stuff.

Also seen posts about bound drones been sold there too, similar to CEX et al and MPB not being able to unbind them.

A common scam these days, You buy a drone off eBay or FB Marketplace. It’s delivered, you find it’s still bound to the previous user. Get in contact with them, “Can you please unbind the drone?” The reply comes back, “That’s going to cost you £xxx for me to do that.” Congratulations, you’ve just purchased a rather expensive ornament.:wink:

Strangely there are lots of drone only for sales on eBay, when I ask the same question to those sellers, dead silence.

I’m guessing they are hot or lost drones being offered for sale to unsuspecting buyers.

At least with mpb you should get your money back if it doesn’t work.

I bought three drones off a bloke on the Mavic Forums. Arrived and he had forgot his DJI password to login and unbind. Was more than happy to reset his password and login to clear the bind. Was worried before arriving, as i knew one of the drones (an Air 2s) was previously owned by someone else.

Close call but glad it worked out for you.

I’m surprised thats the case as they test everything that goes through the company so a binding drone be probably one of the first things they test for before they pay the seller, if this was the case you would definitely not have any hassle on return and money back.

I would only buy from here mpb or DJI refurnished for second hand drones.

I appreciate we’ll have to wait until 2026 but if they adopt the EU standards, then it will be good.

I have the Air2s Combo with The Original DJI Smart Controller. I just love how easy, safe and reliable this drone is! I watched a video on YouTube of a guy running through thick woods with the drone on follow me and it didn’t hit one thing all the way through! The Smart Controller is Ace and the only problem I had was, the Flysafe Database Update getting stuck at 40% I called Dji and they wanted me to send it back for repair and it would have cost me lots as it is out of warranty! Anyway I found the correct version of Dji Assistant 2 and installed it on my laptop and updated everything thing through that program! I’m so pleased that I managed to solve the problem all by myself. The Drone is Absolutely the Best with great reviews!
