DJI Air 2 v Mavic 2 Zoom Help

Not so much fears about the brand model Rich. I’ve never doubted the kit they produce and I love the MP.
There is a part of me though that knows any new model can have a few teething troubles. It’s been a funny year. Manufacturing has been restricted and I would assume a certain degree of field testing too.
I would hazard a guess that due to the current climate this new model may not have had the same level of attention they normally give and due to competition, DJI just like any other company cannot allow buyers to change their brand loyalties so will look to get models out as soon as possible.
At the same time though I’m aware they are usually pretty good with their after sales.
They cannot afford to lose time getting something out along with the fact they cannot afford to release something with a major problem.

There have been one or two, as I say specifically in the USA, that have “fallen out of the sky” or simply been lost and failed to return. I guess some may say that it was pilot error Then there have been the concerns about the new controller - Ian here mentioned “I think the biggest teething problem is the lack of adjustabilty” I think maybe there has been a firmware update to address some of Ian’s concerns. EG:
The maximum flight speed in Spotlight mode has now increased to 19 meters per second when using it in Sport mode. You can now use Spotlight mode during night time flights. DJI has also managed to reduce the noise created when recording HDR video during low-light and night flights.

Smart RTH (return to home) has also been optimized along with the gestures used to trigger ActiveTrack and QuickShots. The DJI Fly app will now include new on-screen prompts when the Mavic Air 2 is experiencing GPS interference.

Maybe all you experts take it all in your stride but as a first timer I am wary of these things and just want to know if it does fall out of the sky then its most likely my fault. Its no different than buying a new car or gaget - I always let others sort out the gremlins.

As with any brand new car, you’re gonna get the odd one or two that catches fire for no apparent reason.

The other tens, or hundreds, of thousands work just fine.

The same applies to DJI drones

As in, the odds are just too small to measure. If hundreds or thousands of brand spanking new drones were falling out of the sky, you’d have probably seen it in the main stream press before now.

I think you’re worrying over nothing

The concern was not over failures specifically but if you go back the the start of this thread you will see it was also about functionality. This was my main concern hence the M2 Zoom or Air 2 deliberation in the original questions. I was hoping that the functionality “gap” had narrowed. The reports of problems arose later.

Are you still looking for a ma2

Yes I am.

The reason for asking the original questions was that I wanted the waypoint functionality that is in M2 Zoom but the newer technology meant that the MA2 is a better bet longer term and with the arrival of M3 the M2Z would be even less attractive technology wise so I’ve been holding off until either the SDK is released when hopfully Litchi will add their waypoint function to MA2 or DJI add it to the MA2 as part of a firmware update. It looks like not many folk on here are that bothered about waypoints and the SDK is still way off and I would like to get sorted before our continental trip in Sept. I’ve been keeping an eye on prices as the M2Z dropped quite a bit before going back up to retail. Sadly the MA2 has remained constant

I think DJI have held back on waypoints in the MA2 as a marketing thing.

You want the extra features, they come on the ‘prosumer’ models.

Check out the Litchi threads or search for waypoints, there are a lot of us.

I’ll sell my ma2 under 2 months old, cracking drone but I’m just not using it to its full potential tbh…

Yes I could be interested depending on whether it is the Combo or not, condition and price of course

Single version with original box. Will consider fair offers due to new age…

I have nearly 5 hours usage with my MA2 and have had zero issues so far. There have been reports of overheating blah blah blah but to be honest I had it out yesterday when it was 27 degrees and it was perfectly fine. I got some epic footage and shots of Runswick Bay & Whitby that I will be uploading later on.
It’s a shame about the waypoints via Litchi BUT I think once the SDK gets released it will be supported.
It has 4K30 and 4k60 and the camera is still pretty topnotch considering the sensor is half the size of the MP2. The only feature I wish I could have is being able to refine the camera settings more not just the ISO and EV balance.
This is the trade off for a half the price of the Pro.
But as s first drone it has blown my expectations and I will plan on getting many more drones in the future👍
