DJI Alternatives

After 2 years I think I’m giving up on DJI products. Yesterday was the last straw, constant disconnection of video and controller, having to log into my account before every flight. My first mini2 was great, on older firmware with no issues. Then after a replacement the new firmware was foisted on me, nothing but hassle since!
So, what are the alternatives? I very rarely fly near people or buildings so weight is not an issue. Im looking for something with the same or better, wind resistance of the mini2, and the camera needs to be at least as good.
Not bothered about used or new.

Probably something beginning with an A as there is not much else about

Consumer drones have had their day. Around ten years ago everybody and their brothers were trying to get a foot in the drone market, but nearly all those manufacturers have long since disappeared, with some moving into government and military programs, but many failing due to short sightedness and those just trying to make quick coin.

Unless you want to take a chance with Autel, or build your own, you’re pretty much stuck with DJI. You could buy an alternative secondhand but you may have issues getting spares, especially smart batteries that will have been out of production for a few years or more.

Roll it back and don’t ever update again, I had the best Mavic pro out the box did everything great it was only when firmware updates throttled everything until I could not take it anymore a enjoble flying turned into continuous nightmare modded it back to the bird I loved.

Continuing the discussion from DJI Alternatives:

I see Sparkyws has linked my post re Autel. I can’t pretend the software is 100% but is pretty reliable i.e. occasional glitches but not every flight.

I can’t roll it back. My mini2 got broken and had to go for repair, but of course it wasn’t repaired. It was replaced, and it’s replacement had the new anti rollback firmware in. I put in a complaint and told them I wanted a replacement with the same version of firmware as the one I sent them. Their reply was that they could not do it due to safety reasons.
I just don’t trust this drone anymore. Disconnections in video and control at less than 40mtrs away in a wide open space? IMU errors every second flight, the app making me sign back in every time I try to fly? I think that one is to try and force you to connect to the Internet so they can do more forced updates!!!
I’m away to Italy for a wedding shortly, I was going to be taking the drone to do some video of the event, and of course some photos of my time away. I ditched the idea because I just can’t trust this drone to behave safely.

I thought all firmware’s on the Mini 2 were reversible on drone hacks ?

Not reversible but hackable

I can’t roll back, DH reports antirollback=2.
I can apply all the hacks and they work as they should but fcc is not permanent, even when hacking through desktop. Just a theory but i think everytime dji logs me out of my account and forcing me to log back in, the hack is being disabled? I also have litchi so I guess it’s time to ditch the dji app completely

FCC was never permanent on the Mini 2 was it?

Like Chris says above on the Mini 2 its the button press method

My advice would be to update to the latest firmware (DH recommends 01.07.0200)

Apply the Hack and remember to enable FCC whilst in the DH software

Update the DJI fly app to the latest version (it’s far more stable than the older ones) you can always downgrade later if you like

Test it, but remember to use the button trick on power up

Well, I guess my theory was completely wrong and I should have RTFM!!!
But still, DJI software remains shite. I’ve resisted using litchi as I actualy prefer the layout in the fly app. But I am going to make a concerted effort with it to see if I can change my mind. I am also really reluctant to do any more updates of firmware or software as far as DJI are concerned, I just don’t trust them anymore.
What I’d really like to do is find someone selling a mini2 or one of its bigger brothers that have never had any updates applied. Fingers crossed I’m getting paid out for 3 weeks holidays I have not been able to take due to my workload, the other half will only be getting told about 2 thirds of it!!!
