As others have mentioned the 4G/LTE dongle does now function in the UK for the Mavic 3 series drones (and mini 3), however you need a licence from OFCOM and special SIM card. Two of these if you’re using the RC Pro. What DM productions did was illegal and not the most responsible videos to make to be fair. It didn’t use to work before in the UK only in China. Can’t really see a use case for if you’re maintaining VLOS which 99% of drone flyers would have to.
I watched GavinHR’s original video. You can’t tell me he was in VLOS with his drone at all times throughout the flight. If he was, ( in the area he was flying) his connection with the RC wouldn’t have dropped out and the dongle taken over the connection. Why then did he feel the need for the follow up video where he walks along as his drone flies quite a long distance ? I wish he’d just put his hands up and flat out admitted he flew illegally.
And at least one person has already been prosecuted for using without the requisite license (see the report about the drone operator from Leicestershire.
Well, I would have thought they used FCC/illegal power on their kit to be able to reach those heights and distances, not sure about 4G connectivity - certainly no evidence that I’ve seen about using one of these particular dongles or compatible DJI kit. Believe the OFCOM thing is about the power used.
Exactly, he did fly using the 4G capability briefly which without the licence and special SIM card from OFCOM is illegal in the UK. Not first time he seems to have done improper stuff to be fair though seems he gets lots of views of his videos. Some of those I have found useful (some places to fly abroad for example) but generally information you can find yourself or would know if you were a “professional” drone operator.
