Now DJI enters the drone delivery business

Its a monster!

Can I fly this in the open category with an A2 C of C :crazy_face:

I always wondered about the viability of Amazon delivery drones… and the chances of being hijacked or pirated…

The more of these things you put in the air (and “reduce the carbon footprint of trucks on the road”), the more you need to regulate all low altitude flight operations. And recreational flyers are a very inconvenient and unpredictable factor. I have no qualms about having a Mini 3 fly over me. But if the neighbour, who receives a lot of deliveries, starts getting deliveries with one of these, I will have serious safety issues. These things cannot be used for delivery in communities of more than a couple of dozen scattered houses. But I’m now wondering how the CAA is going to allow these for BVLOS operations, while still permitting laissez-faire sub 250g flights by the likes of us. I can see which category will get disadvantaged…

I would suggest that commercial operations with large delivery drones operating beyond BVLOS all need to be above 120 metres / 400 feet, and air traffic controlled, and with defined geo-fenced take-off spots. Their landing targets, however, will interact with recreational drones.

What happens if I want to inspect my roof, and the DPD depot 40 metres behind my house is busy launching these behemoths?

If you fly DJI they’ll just NFZ the whole place or firmware upgrade you out of the sky

Maximum take off weight of 95kg. Wouldn’t want one of those falling out of the sky from 400ft :joy::joy::joy::joy:

They’ll never hope to compete with traditional delivery methods though. Could possibly see these being used for ( very) local delivery though. Given the limited range, you’d have to have customers living within a few miles of the depot. ( and you’ve still got to deliver the customers package/ order to the depot) I truly believe this is nothing but a dream that one day things will be delivered by drones ( and Evri will still fail to deliver) :joy::joy::joy:

… and if they did deliver, it would make it easier to throw over the fence :laughing:

Just waiting to see the app that tracks your parcel when living on a remote island. We were not able to complete delivery today… Parcel 50 meters below sea level. Please collect. P.s. while you are there can you grab our drone.

is GPS not supposed to have an accuracy of 3 to 10m?

how would one know if it lands in my garden or the neighbours… I mean houses in the UK are not that big like some in the US…

plus what happens with a flat?

apartment 205 may be tricky… or is it just first one to it gets it…

or like the Amazon lockers there are 4 drones parked up outside a block of flats waiting for parcel collection from the tenants…

all seems a bit pie in the sky… (but then I’m sure a phone with a screen on it was also pie in the sky at one point too… if anything like my past track record of it’ll never happen, now would be the time to buy shares!)
