DJI GO4 vs Litchi for Waypoints

Hi, so okay the title might not reflect my full query here, but here goes…

I’ve got the DJI GO4 app on my everyday tablet (which I used to use for flying), and on my DJI SC. To plan a waypointed route, it would be easier for me to sit at home with my tablet (bigger screen) and plot it on it then save it, then when I get out to the flight site, use my SC.

Q1. Does the planned route get saved to the cloud or, am I stuck with having to route plan on my SC?

I’ve already got Litchi on my tablet (via Google Play Store) and PC but it looks like I’m having to re-purchase the app via Amazon AppStore to use on my SC.

Q2a. Once purchased, I should be able to open it on my SC using my existing login details, yes?
Q2b. If so, I should still be able to route plan on my PC, then go to the flight site and use my SC, yes?

Sorry if these are daft questions…

I’ve never used waypoints on DJI apps before so can’t help there.

Yes, confirmed. You might want to wait until it’s on a holiday-sale. If you buy it on the Amazon store you can also use that same version on the DJI CrystalSky too.

Yes.

Yes.

This is great, thanks for your help! :beers: Apart from having to re-purchase (which I know has been a bone of contention for some time for previous owners), it all sounds pretty straightforward :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes, that’s the joy of it
I sit in the warmth of my home, create my flights on my laptop using LITCHI HUB, save them.
When I get outside I load them in Litchi on my tablet and fly.

I think Q1 related to Go4 waypoints? Like Rich - I’ve never used Go4 for waypoints, so don’t know the answer.

Umm, you’re right!

The GO4 waypoint app looks easy to use but I’ve just realised that I need to be connected to my M2P to access it.

The massive advantage that Litchi appears to have is that you can use your PC to create route plans whereas, the GO4 is limited to setting up on the device that it’s loaded onto i.e. tablet, phone, SC.

That is the benefit as I understood it … without ever having used the Go4 Waypoints.

Nice big screen, warm house on a winter’s day, large mug of coffee. :+1:

Also, there’s also Virtual Litchi Mission (Windows prog / Chrome plugin) that allows for the visualisation of the resulting video using Google Earth, and you can even create a video preview from GE.

(Search on “Virtual Litchi Mission” for more info.)

Okay, so I’m already having trouble trying to download the Amazon Appstore to my SC

I get as far as ‘Get Amazon Appstore’, click the button, it then says something like ‘Thank you for downloading Amazon Appstore’ however, I don’t get the apk file when I pull down my drop-down window (if that makes sense…)

Any tips…?

This may help … Litchi on the DJI Smart Controller

Cheers … I’ll get right on it! :slightly_smiling_face:

Okay, so that unfortunately is the same i.e. I get the message, ‘Thank you for downloading the Amazon Appstore app’.

The Litchi instructions then just says to log into my Amazon account from the app that I’ve just downloaded but there’s no app on my app page??

My SC firmware is: V01.01.0064 of this is any help…

M2P - Waypoints 100% Litchi everytime, in the 2 years I’ve had my M2P I’ve never used Go4 for Waypoints, Litchi has worked from day 1, plan them on big screen PC, check them on PC, re check again on PC, then test flight, worked every time. Its the only reason I’ve kept my M2P since buying the M3.

Try this it may save you buying it again

Thanks for that but now I’m a little confused…

I was of the understanding that I couldn’t get the Litchi app through the Google Playstore and it had to be via the Amazon Appstore?

@PingSpike knows about Litchi on SCs, too.

I’m running Litchi on both the DJI Smart Controller and the CrystalSky.

@bombero just confirm you’ve followed this guide?

Also confirm you’re downloading from amazon.com and not amazon.co.uk ?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/mas/get/android/ref=get_appstore

The Google Play services on DJI devices just absolutely do not work. Over the last four years I’ve tried every guide, every blog, every mod, every root, every link, every everything. Yeah you can install it and yeah it might run for a while, but it’ll forever keep crashing in the background and annoy the fuck out of you with its constant pop ups telling you it’s just crashed again

The custom Android that DJI use is just too stripped back to support Play services smoothly.

Honestly, £18 quid (or however much it is now) is a small price to pay for zero grief.

Hi @PingSpike, thanks for the info. Yes, I’m using the amazon.com website, and confirm its the same as your provided link.

I get as far as it thanking me for downloading the appstore app with the ‘steps to install’ below it, but I don’t get the apk file when I drag down from the top of my screen…

UPDATE: I’ve just clicked on the link where it says, ‘not working, retry download after 10 seconds’ and it’s worked! I got prompted to install the apk file however, I don’t see it on my apps page. Didn’t matter as Litchi has been successfully installed! Will have to leave it until tomorrow now to connect to my M2P and give it a whirl

Thanks @PingSpike and EVERYONE who took the time to reply and help, much appreciated! :beers:
