DJI have dropped support for their iOS SDK

I received an email from DJI earlier, announcing they will no longer be supporting their Software Development Kit (SDK) for iOS.

Their recommended workaround? Use Android instead?! :exploding_head:

This will have a significant impact for all third party iOS apps, including Litchi.

Dear Developer

Thank you very much for your long-term support and trust in DJI.

In order to continue providing you with a better development experience and technical support services, DJI will now stop updating certain SDKs. After the update is stopped, the corresponding SDKs will no longer release new versions and will no longer accept new MFi applications. Technical support services will not be affected. At the same time, we recommend that you use the alternative solutions we recommend for development.

SDK Type Stop Update Date Alternative Solution
iOS SDK November 29, 2023 We recommend developing mobile applications based on the Android SDK
Windows SDK November 29, 2023 No alternative solution available. You can choose to develop using the mobile SDK or cloud API based on your application scenario
Onboard SDK November 29, 2023 We recommend developing onboard applications based on the Payload SDK. The functionality of the Onboard SDK has been integrated into the Payload SDK

DJI will continue to provide you with higher quality products and better services. Thank you again for your concern and support. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our developer technical support. The email address is dev@dji.com

This notice is hereby given.

It was actually dropped some time ago (21/03/22) with the release of SDK V5, but they never officially admitted it till today

conspiracy theory… is it because of the closed nature of iOS apps that DJI did not wish to expose what is going on the the background of their apps or functions and how it may log and share data, where as iOS always seems quite a closed system?

with android, any old carp app will do?

Yes, probably.

The moment they went rogue from the Android / Google Play Store just started all sorts of alarm bells ringing.

If your app is legit and isn’t harvesting your entire address book and tracking your every move in the background, then let it be code reviewed :exploding_head:

What are you hiding?? :scream:

Everything Apple make is a closed system ( or at least almost closed) My android phone can’t communicate with my iPad. Can’t send pics from my phone to it and vice-versa. If I connect the iPad to my Windows computer, it throws a wobbly.
Don’t get me wrong, Apple make products that work beautifully, but it seems you have to buy into the Apple philosophy if you buy their products ( Apple philosophy, Let’s make it work perfectly, but charge the customer for any and every peripheral they need, and let’s make those peripherals Apple products too. ) And people buy into this relentless company. Must have the latest iPhone every 6 or so months.:roll_eyes:

Or an Xbox disc in a PS

Exactly Chris. Mine won’t accept 4k video direct from the drone via the Fly app, but strangely, the wife’s newer iPad will. Her iPad can send the 4k video to mine though. Weird that it can accept 4k video from an Apple product, but not from my drone :wink:

DJI issue not Apple :o)

Hmmm not sure Chris. I can transfer video via the Fly app to the wife’s iPad, then transfer from her photo album to mine via wifi/ Bluetooth. Just not directly to mine from the Fly app. Hers is a lot newer version than mine though.:wink:

Reading up on Dronelink, Litchi and Maven apps they all seem to agree that DJI is dropping support for iOS devices. No clue as to when - but bad news for those of us with poor eyesight forced to use mini iPads!

@Seasidepeter we have moved your post to the thread where this was announced in November 2023.
