DJI Inspire 1 battery modifications

Have spent some time upgrading and modifying my Inspire, which now works well with the cameras I have for it. the downside is that flight times are not long even using TB48 batteries. I came across this modification on an American website Air America Aerial Imagery which lists a mod using a large capacity LiPo sideways through the battery compartment giving it an extended flying time, Has anyone any comments please? Mike.

It might not increase your flight time but it’ll certainly increase the life of your drone when the DJI batteries are no longer available.

I’ve got a similar mod on my OG Mavic:

I’ve just seen their price, it’s horrific :scream:

$250 + import duty ?! :exploding_head:

You’d be better off spending that £250 quid on TB47 and 48’s from eBay

hi mike yes i have 2 modified heads from eric yes longer flights and will go on longer as dji tb batteries running out pm me

Hi @Mavproflight, it looks as though you’re quite new here :wave:t2:

Why not nip over to the Introductions page, and say hello properly and tell us a bit about yourself. :+1:t2:

There’s this old thread Inspire 1 battery mod but the links are dead. May give you some ideas though.

This is an old video showing how to modify the “inteliigent” head of a TB47/48 battery (discarding all the cells) and fit an XT60 and a balance lead so any 6S battery that you can mount on the airframe can be used.

I have sorted the Inspire 1 head prior to seeing the video above and have connected it up to a battery and charged and discharged it using an SPC4500 charger. The Inspire struggled with the weight of the battery on a number of test flights to the extent that I am looking for lighter ones with less capacity to finish off and test. The whole project has cost about ÂŁ60.00 so far which is rather better than the American mod, will post again with the next set of results.

No way? :scream:

Having owned a few over the years I always found the old Inspire 1 to be absolutely bomb proof and capable of lifting any payload.

How much do your new batteries weigh?

The battery weighs 1.2kg, it’s a 10000. mah one, looking at 8400 mah at 890 grams which has a better discharge rate, Tb48 is 670 grams and 5700 mah. The 8400 mah replacement is expensive,
