As per previous comment, the EASA regulations will require all drone manufacturers to implement the exact same functionality (remote-id-to-phone) if they want to sell their gear in the EU in a couple of years’ time.
That’s interesting and it all makes sense now In fact he says as much in the video
This is just what the Tobacco industry and also the ‘free press’ in this country have been doing for years it follows a pattern
Recognise a threat to your profit margin from the State Gov’n
Realise that the rules/laws proposed need to be slowed or if possible reversed
Try to mitigate the risk by offering a voluntary 1/2 way house on your terms not the States while offering the benefits of minimum ‘policing costs’ to the State
Delay the Likely inevitable for as long as you can while Campaigning against State interference while offering an acceptable solution
It is worthy to note that the new Manufacturing requirements Required by the new rules based on EASA require the tracking to be in place by July 2022 on All Manufacturers UASV’s
”Keep your friends close but your enemy even closer”
DJi are no fools they are looking after their interests and we will benefit
Thanks for that Kevin we must remind ourselves sometimes they have rights just as we have although rights is always an emotive expression better to use Privileges
This is an interesting statement and I quote it only to illustrate
But just think what info they are given
You have a UASV in the air - they know that anyway
It has a registration No - they done know if that’s you because it’s the Operator ID not the Flyer ID and they won’t unless their an authorised entity So no name, address etc just like seeing a car/bike Reg No
They know your flight path - well that should shut them up if we’re flying legally
It can be used to find drones users - well DJi if stating 1Km range (lab testing) That probably means 500-700mts - Well we all know 500mts is considered within LOS for most we train ourself to spot Craft up to 500-700mts So they can see/hear it anyway
They can find us - Well in we stand in a yellow hi-vis vest and based on the above they don’t need an app to do that
My conclusion is I take this on board and worry about it if and when it has a personal impact
Im not overly concerned at all. As I cant see Joe Public using an app to track a/my drone unless theyre drone users themselves or are savvy enough to know about the app.
I dont mind 90% of the info that is being transmitted either. The only wee bit that bothers me is pilot location. The rest doesnt bother me in the slightest.
With miles of open land around me I’ll often fly from my garden and the thought of someone (who isnt the authorities) being able to see that fact doesnt sit all that easy with me. I know theres little threat but still, why should I whilst enjoying a hobby be so easily tracked by people I dont know?
Part of the enjoyment I get from flying my M2P is finding a secluded area to fly from with my £2000+ worth of gear but obviously where im genuinely after some photos who knows who is around me within 500m and what their intentions are. Cant I/we get to know that too on an app so we’re all happy?
Its hardly likely all this, I get that but its simply the concern i have.
PS Whats this about a hi-vis jacket?
PPS Again, if im being a n*b and irritating the neighbourhood let the authorities know and I’ll take my punishment.
Other brands might do quite well if they DON’T do this and it will be a great marketing promo.
I’ve mentioned before in another thread, there was a big uproar with Waze when you could mark the location of police and patrol vehicles. The police said it would endanger their lives. How would this be different for us remote pilots?
An over-zealous dog walker is one thing, someone or a group of people with a grudge is another.
I must admit, I thought initially thought that this was something that DJI were introducing to show that as drone manufacturers they were whiter then white. However from reading above, it appears theyre simply getting in ahead of new regulations that are to come to all drones / manufacturers.
I mind less about big brother and big business tracking me. I pooe’d me pants last year when Google could tell me everywhere I’d been for the past 10 years, including which shops, restaurants and petrol stations Id visited etc and for how long too, but however, Im quite used to that now. #AndroidPhonesRus. Its making location info available to just anyone. Thats the fine line for me.
I didnt see the Amazon thing, I was tempted but over looked it in the end. Im quite aware of the data theyve got. Although perhaps it’d be worth a watch! Im sure it’ll open my eyes.
It’s their intention for the future that’s particularly worth watch for ‘Scary Mary’ And that’s just what there prepared to tell us at this moment in time
I still give ‘Their’ Super Computers a run for their money I think I must be a nightmare because I’m such an erratic person at times must be the Russian in me
Amazon are still sending me adverts for things I’ve already bought off them
The weaponisation of Data is a scary thought though
I have no issue with my pilot/drone ID being transmitted, as long as that is all that is sent, the relevant authority can then use this to police transgressions, but this will only effect the law abiding citizens who register.
Or who know about it, I’m pretty sure the average dad buying a mini for his teenagers has no idea, its not exactly plastered all over the shopping sites.
