DJI Mini 3 Pro - Rumours, leaks, gossip and general discussion, reviews

Don’t know if anyone is still after a fly more kit but Heliguy has some in stock.

Hi Rich

I’m hoping to add apps to the controller and if it cannot be sideloaded/web browser or cannot be unlocked it will be binned simple as that as you know I hate being tied to dji control freaks.

Unfortunately weather crap here and alot of gardening and landscaping atm to test my knew drones but I will be hacking them all. :sunglasses:

Glad to know some things haven’t changed in all these years Mark @ziceman

Looks like the Range issue in the US is due to it going into CE mode when it aquires the home point. Might be worth seeing if this trick works for those have had the FCC hack but haven’t reapplied it yet since the latest firmware update?

Should have got a RCN1 controller version of you want to add apps. As you can do that on your phone.

The RC controller is a dedicated controller and nothing else. You can’t add any apps, no web browser. The only thing you can do is “view” YouTube.

Oh and fly the drone.

Which is exactly why I’m waiting for the drone only package:+1:and then the fly more no need for another controller and I’m glad I waited:+1::wink::sunglasses:

I have a RC-1N here I might sell, I only ever fly VLOS anyway so not bothered about losing signal

I hate having the faff of swapping controllers.

Each to there own

No faff for me I just organise myself accordingly but as you say each to their own :+1: I can see why some want the latest, the best, the most again it’s an individual thing  the main thing is we should all be flying :sunglasses:

I do have one for the air 2s

your right should have just gone for none or another DJI RC-N1 Remote Controller but SC it was advertised with it and never had one so I just bought it as I liked the idea of it handiness, I assumed it would not be locked that I manage to sideload like other devices in the past.

Does anyone know if the regular battery will charge in the plus battery charger?

I can’t understand why so many people are complaining the RC controller is a dedicated controller without the ability to side load apps or use it as a tablet.

In my view if you require the ability to use apps of your choice or the use of a phone/tablet. Meaning you require a phone/tablet, then use a phone/tablet. :man_shrugging:

My personal thoughts on the RC controller are, it is a remote controller for my drone……with a screen built in.
If I need or require to use a phone/tablet, then I use my phone/tablet.

I have no fear of being disturbed or a call, or notification coming through while I am using it if I forget to put it on do not disturb. It has no clutter on it. I turn it on, it connects straight to my drone, no faffing about adding this or that, no cables to add. No extra brackets to add (so I can use a tablet, meaning after market brackets making the controller do what it was not designed to do. If it was designed to have a 60” tv connected to it the bracket would be in the box. Slight exaggeration I know but you know what I am saying)
We have all been spoilt so much these days.

I want it to do this, I want to do this with it.
If it won’t do this or that it’s going in that bin it’s useless.

I know we have progress but just think back to when we had a remote control that was a remote controller with no screen and all it did was control the operation of the thing we were flying.

Ohhhh hang on wait a minute……we still have this, it’s called an RCN1 controller.

If we add another piece of equipment to it we can see what we are doing from the on board camera and we can if we want to, alter the settings on the camera. We can also if we desire to, use some smart functions the manufacture has created for us to make the experience even better.

Wait another minute.
Isn’t this what the RC controller will do for us without adding another piece of equipment? Allow us to fly the drone and see the view from the camera. Alter all the settings we can alter on the drone and all in one package.

Nothing will ever satisfy 100% of the population 100% of the time. If I could invent something that would I wouldn’t be here discussing this.

It is what is it.

A remote controller with a screen built in. :man_shrugging:

I just don’t get all the disappointment.
My smart controller had no extra apps on it. I am not interested in going on Facebook or YouTube or googling for this and that or editing photos or whatever. (To be honest with you, to do all this on the smart controller out in the field you have to connect it another piece of equipment anyway, to do it at home you have to connect to wifi) It is a tool for flying my drones. As is the RC controller.

If I want to do the above I use the equipment that is designed and manufactured to do so.

That’s my take on it anyway.

I think some people are looking too far into this.

For me - this is great - closed system which I can’t screw up by adding other apps and then wondering why my drone doesn’t behave like it should. Still think its excellent value for money with a lot less messing about with cables, phones/tablets etc. The number of time I’ve gone out to fly and left my bloody phone in the car  - its worth the money just for keeping my blood pressure down

Somebody got out the wrong side of the bed this morning :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy:

I agree with you but we are a nation of moaners :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: i do have a dedicated phone and all it has is Fy and FCC and tracker app and rest is turned off.

I said before I bought it SC because it was there in front of me and I took it, I never researched or read anything about SC and Pro just stupidly assumed it be android and with Android you can manipulate.

If it is a case being happy with what you have why we want Moverio Tripltek Crystalsky apple/android tablets and drone hacks, because we always want more and better safer enjoyment and if forums like here can point me in the right direction to achieve this I’m happy.

Also remember dji do try and stop these hacks by firmware updates and people not happy until they found a exploit to get it hacked again so I don’t see problem with me liking the SC hacked

I’m going to have another strong coffee and enjoy my Saturday off looking at heavy rain and high winds. :joy:

If someone can hack the SC let me know as I like to put on a browser to access my porn channels on the go in a middle of the field with my wee joysticks on my own  :sunglasses:

Fuff I was going to have a moan about my DJI FPV but I think I leave it for a while :rofl::rofl:

Love you all and now another strong coffee I need. :coffee:

Give it time and someone will hack it anyway. It’s inevitable.

I caved in and took delivery yesterday of the Mini 3 Pro … just a few weeks after buying a Mini 2! I “blame” fora such as this :innocent:

Seriously, I was very impressed with the way it handled straight outta the box. I couldn’t get out yesterday but wanted to try it so took it into my front yard (very tiny) and placed it in the middle of the yard which is only two to three feet from the wall of the house). Acquired RTH and requisite satellites very quickly (with my Mini 2 I usually have to take it outside the yard to see enough sats) and I was very impressed with how smoothly it responded to the sticks (C mode) as it rose up through the gap twixt house and trees. It was rock solid and didn’t drift at all, a major consideration in such a tight space.

I‘m a photographer who uses drones so the most important factor will ultimately be image quality and that too looks promising. I am predominantly a film photographer and I’m used to working with black and white film, many of my drone images end up in mono too, so the response of the Mini 3 files to image manipulation will be important. I’ve yet to test the image making potential but will do soon I hope.

The firmware update allowing the customisation if C1/2 etc means that I have the controller set up to mimic the Mavic Pro configuration I started with. Even though the dial is on a rocker switch by holding it In place the shutter speeds do continually change without multiple rocking of the switch I found. I’m not finding the Mini 3 controller (with screen) as comfortable to use as the RC-N1 but that’s going to become easier with practice I’m certain.

Forecast for next few days is strong, gusty winds and rain so it may be I can’t fly it properly until the end of the week but first impressions are very positive. Just need a couple of extra batteries now!

Thanks to everyone on here who has contributed to the Mini 3 discussions for a very comprehensive discussion about this new drone - I believe I’ve read every thread and have learnt so much to help make the buying decision a well-informed and considered one.
