DJI Mini 5 all versions - Rumours, leaks, gossip and general discussion

What about the Mavic 5?

That’s after the Pocket 4 and the Inspire 4 … obviously!

Ok - we all like a gadget or we wouldn’t be on this forum or thread. I was very fortunate to visit the Masai Mara in Kenya in June…and took one of my personal best photos ever on (wait for it) a 9 year old OMD1 and 600mm lens. My approach is to use what I have in the M4P before blowing cash on a handful of ā€œthat might be a useful feature DJI thought of but which I didn’t and am never ever going to use anywayā€. Drones like the MP4 produce fabulous content but until you’re 100% confident a shiny new drone will make you a better videographer or photographer and greatly improve the quality and impact of your work, save the money for travel to destinations around the UK’s cities, countryside and of course further afield and focus on the job in hand, not gadget in hand!!

It’s all about the user and the model.

Mini 5 Pro with Lidar

Odd just saw two YouTube vids about the Flip that seem to suggest the mini 5 may not happen due to the Flip - but maybe both vids were quoting the same info but this seems to say it will happen - hope so as I want to upgrade from the Mini 3pro to this

Nobody seems to have quite made their minds up as to what the Flip actually is; is it a super-Neo or the replacement for this Mini 5?

My opinion (other opinions are available and may be better informed/more considered) is that there are too many drones in DJI’s catalogue and too many of them have confusingly similar names. Some of them overlap in terms of price and intended use, and a ā€˜rationalisation’ might be on the cards. How many models do you need?

My view (other views are available &c) is that the Mavic Mini derlvate range is obsolete and due for replacement, hence the discounting and heavy marketing of the 4K (which I’ve just bought) to get rid of stocks. The Neo is cheaper, and has a good set of features that include avoidance, follow me, and other tricks but is less wind-resistant than the Minis (except the original Mavic Mini).

This would mean that a Mini 5 is dead in the water, and the Mini range is to be replaced with Flips, I would expect the Flip, which apparently includes all the extra Neo features, to be level 5 wind-resistant and come in at about £250 for the bare drone capable of being flown in modes by buttons on the drone or with a phone app, which would follow the Neo concept. It would then be capable of being matched to controllers and FPV goggles.

I could be wrong, of course; this happens occasionally, This would make the Flip much more expensive and retain the introduction of the Mini 5 as a rehash of the Mini 4K with some Neo features. If these can be put into the Neo at sub-Ā£200, they can probably be shoehorned into a Mavic Mini series type bodyshell at under 250g.

We’ll just have to wait and see, and enjoy the frothing in the meantime, won’t we!

What have you been smoking :joy:

Why would DJI kill off a very successful line of drones for a ā€˜cheap’ foldable drone?

Makes zero sense apart from click bait for gullible people on social media :joy:

It’s true. That’s why pro sports photographers all use iPhones. No, wait…

Do we know how much it might cost yet?

Wouldn’t bother mate, dead in the water, not coming out

Ā£1200ish at a guess… they don’t get cheaper… look at that added benefit of lidar.

the neo was launched to bring in the cheaper sales

sorry but if you crash a mini 3 pro / a mini 4 you are a BE… pilot error no other excuse! (yes i crashed my m3 p once… 100% pilot error and all the sensors in the world would have made zero difference as I was in sport mode and it was a distance judging + perspective error, no damage though)

I have so far avoided buying the m4 p simply because I am all kited out with 03, and am reluctant to sell all off and replace with 04 goggles, controllers etc etc, it all works interchangeably between m3 p fpv, 03 air unit, avata1.

I don’t really use waypoints that much and when I do I use litchi pilot with the m3 p, its worked well thus far.

second hand market seems flooded with drones at the moment, and there are a lot of owners trying to sell stuff at nearly new prices (well that is what it looks like to me, as a lot of ā€œwishfulā€ sellers).

tried to post and got this message… what did i do wrong (am I getting old and missed some alternative meaning?)

You tried to upload a file … .mp3 or .mp4 … that isn’t allowed.

See : Direct video uploads no longer supported

ahh… getting old!

I’d guess you tried to shorten Mini 3 Pro to its initials, which it won’t let you, because it could also mean Mavic 3 Pro, etc, and it gets really confusing for everyone.

confusing… that you want to take up with DJI!
goggles
goggles v2
goggles 2
goggles…!

mini
mini 2
mini 2 se
mini 3 pro
mini 3
mini 4k
mini 4 pro

mavic
…
mavic 3 classic
mavic 3 pro
mavic 3 cine

and every 9 months there is another one to add to the list…

m3 pro being either a mavic or a mini is the least of confusion (when the topic is about a mini).

just interesting to see how quick the next latest and greatest must have offering comes out from DJI be that the mavic 4 (classic, pro, cine, enterprise, thermal…) or mini 5 and mini 5 pro! :scream:
