New drone arriving: DJI Neo
“Following the usual 30% rule for DJI drone weight, the estimated weight of the Neo will be 169g. I’m going to guess it’s something like the Hover drone with a full propeller cage and compact enough to put in your pocket when folded.”

Zhang estimates the battery’s weight at 52.5g, assuming an energy density of 200 Wh/kg. This leads to a projected flight time of around 15 minutes.

Looks like an innovative little thing, very much the ‘flying camera’ type. I can’t see it being much use outdoors with such a low weight, but in sheltered locations and of course indoors it should be fine; I’ll be interested to see the wind rating. I can see the attraction for first responders, and would be surprised if a special edition is not made available for them, perhaps with thermal imaging and even radar/lidar. I’m not tempted though; happy with the Mini format.

I think a proper ‘pocket’ drone needs to be even smaller than this, the size of a spectacles case including the RC, and once you get down to that size then there are going to be compromises in terms of VLOS range, wind resistance, camera quality, and gimbal performance. Overcoming those will mean a very expensive item, but the potential is there.

The rate of development at DJI msy or may not have been accellerated by the potential US ban, but it is, one has to admit, phenomenal. In ten years’ time, who knows what we will be able to buy; drones with orbital potential, underwater performance, thousand-mile fpv range, operable from home computer…

Hopefully the DJI Neo will have a development kit like the Telo had. Loads of college’s used the Telo to code with in Python and Swift. It was more than just a “toy” to some for sure and had some great functionality. Better than any Temo / AliExpress drones for sure.

Loved my little Telo and it was the gateway to my love of flying today.

RC-N2, do we know?

My guess is RC-N1

Oh?

To keep the price low?

Would be great if it also worked with the RC or RC 2 tho… And they offered a drone-only option…

Looks like it’s also going to support direct Wi-Fi connection to your phone, with no remote controller needed.
