DJI RC - Screen Freeze

I have posted about this before, but it is happening more and more. My controller screen freezes, despite there being no corresponding affect on the drone. The bottom left corner map and all the flight data such as speed and height all continue to operate, but the image freezes and remains so for some time. Sometimes I have come into land and the screen remains on a frame it took around 2 mins earlier. Sometimes it jolts back into life when the drone is closer to the controller.

This is happening towards the end of a flight when the two are close together, I was at 400 metres away circling with no issue and then at the end it happens. This appears a controller issue only, I have flown and seen the drone every time this occurs, it responds and acts normally every time - so flight data won’t show anything.

The only other thing I can think of is I keep getting prompted to upload flight data - I do it regularly, but it keeps prompting it. The symbols on my flights are all clouds and it looks like it has updated, but it is hard to work out whats going on.

Any ideas?

What controller ?

@PitchFader Hi it is the RC with screen for the Mini 3. To be honest I have learnt how to get round it now, I can just fly using the map and my VLOS - but it does seem odd when it occurs. Its happened a good 4 or 5 times now and always usually towards the end of a flight.

Factory reset and refresh the firmware

Then test it again

Yes could try that. Will that potentially need re registering and cause me issue’s with bounding and unbounding or is it fairly safe?

Safer than the freezing screen, you will need to log in to your DJI account again and possibly rebind it to the drone

Flew my 3pro many times with RCN1 and iPad mini 4 of some description, low performance job. Had that behaviour many times randomly. Flown with better performance tablets No problemo…

Maybe its time for a new drone. Guess it makes sense now im getting paid too.

I had the same issue with rc1. And at closer distances than 400m. I just upgraded to mini4pro with rc2.. it is literally MILES better.

What is the actual difference in camera and image quality with the 4? I thought it was just all about the enhances features like hazard avoidance all of which I dont use or want.

Google tells you

DJI Mini 4 Pro:

  • Sensor: 1/1.3-inch CMOS, 48 MP
  • Video: Up to 4K/60fps HDR, 4K/100fps slow-motion (4K output at 24/25/30/48/50/60/100 fps)
  • HDR: Yes, with 10-bit D-Log M and HLG
  • Still Photos: 48MP (DNG/JPEG)
  • Night Shots: Improved low-light video with multi-scale noise reduction
  • Other Features: True Vertical Shooting, omnidirectional obstacle sensing, ActiveTrack 360°

DJI Mini 3 Pro:

  • Sensor: 1/1.3-inch CMOS, 48 MP
  • Video: Up to 4K/30fps HDR, 1080p/120fps slow-motion
  • HDR: Yes
  • Still Photos: 48MP (DNG/JPEG)
  • Night Shots: Not available
  • Other Features: True Vertical Shooting, omnidirectional obstacle sensing (forward, backward, downward)

In essence, the DJI Mini 4 Pro offers a significant leap in camera capabilities, particularly in terms of frame rates, HDR, and low-light performance, making it a more versatile and powerful drone for videography.

Thats against the 3 Pro. I have the 3.

Above the 3 pro has a higher FPS for slow mo too.

Google if it’s not on the forum somewhere :+1:

It’s on the forum here

The search bar is a great tool !

The only problem being it throws up historical chat, and over time people learn and accumulate knowledge meaning asking a fresh question generates fresh conversation. But I know the forum doesn’t want new threads so I avoid posting where I can (as do others from my understanding).

How many times do we need to see ‘what’s the best SD card’ asked.

Keep it tidy, most questions have already been asked

Did it work or is it still the same

Need time to test it first!
