A new version of Drone Scene has been released
(Missed the February updates? Take a look here!)
New Feature
At last, focused searching has come to Drone Scene
In the past you’ve only been able to perform a geographical search on the map. This was a service provide by mapping giants ESRI.
While it worked, it only allowed you to search for a town or postcode on the map, not for any flying locations that have been added to the map.
We’ve built a brand new search feature which now allows you to search for anything
On mobile devices, the new search panel is closed by default to save some valuable screen real estate so you’ll need to click the little +
sign to expand this on your smartphone. This will reveal the new Search & Filter
panel:
There are three search options available:
Locations
– This searches all locations that people have added to the map
Members
– This searches for all club members
Town, Postcode, POI, Coordinates
– You get the idea
Searching for a location will give you a list of results that match either a full or partial search.
This searches all 2,900+ recommended locations to fly which are on the map.
Clicking on a search result will whisk your map directly to that location:
You can also now search for a club member by name to see if they’re on the map.
(Club members which are shaded out in grey have not added themselves to the map)
Clicking on a member name will whisk your map directly to the member you clicked on so you can quickly and easily see where they are based:
Searching for a town name, postcode, point of interest or a set of coordinates will perform a geographical search, rather than a flying recommendation location search.
In similar fashion, clicking on the town or POI search result will whisk your map directly to the place in question:
Happy searching!
New Feature
– Requested by @SparkyFPV
DJI made a change last year to remove all their geo-zone restrictions and classified everything in their datasets as a "Enhanced Warning Zone"
@SparkyFPV noticed they quietly added in some new "Restricted Zones"
over two of the King’s houses.
We now display all DJI Enhanced Warning Zones and DJI Restricted Zones in our single DJI GEO Zones

UI / UX Change
– Inadvertently requested by @Steviegeek
Steve made a passing observation recently that the list of discounts available to our Silver and Gold Members was somewhat minimalist to say the least.
We took that passing comment on board (thanks Steve!) and have made some changes.

UI / UX Change
– Requested by @Kirky
Rich Kirky pointed out that the numbers on the Measure Tool were difficult to read if using it on a dark coloured area of the base map:
We’ve added a dark colour background and some lighter coloured text to make it much easier to read, no matter what your base map preference is:
Bug Fix
– Reported by @Kirky
Rich @kirky noticed some of the links on the Top 10 page had stopped working.
Thanks for the bug report!
Other Random Stuff
As the Club continues to gear up for even bigger and better things we’ve moved the following pages off our forum and put them on Drone Scene:
And more importantly:
Other Random Stuff
We recently launched a Drone Scene Beta Tester Programme and if you’re a Silver or Gold Member you may be eligible to join.
What do you get out of joining the Beta Tester Programme?
What do we need in return?
If this is something you might be interested in helping us with please get in touch and let us know why you think you’d be a great addition to the group
Other Random Stuff
– Requested by @grandad1950
David @grandad1950 highlighted just how many locations on Drone Scene had a land owner permission requirement of “Unknown”.
Some of this will have been legacy related, we didn’t always have a Land Owner Permissions setting in the early days of Drone Scene so when that feature came along we had no alternative but to mark all existing entries at that point as “Unknown”.
In more recent years people will have selected unknown because they simply don’t know what the land owner permissions are and in some cases, who even owns that piece of land.
After some discussion with the @beta-testers team everyone was in agreement that this could be safely removed from all existing entries, from the Add Location
page, from the drop down filters on the home page and everywhere else it existed too.
We hope you find this level of release notes / details useful
But don’t forget!
In order to use all the features of Drone Scene you need to be a Silver or Gold Member of Grey Arrows Drone Club.
Membership is available from as little as £1.34 per month
As ever, please continue to enjoy Drone Scene and please keep those feature requests coming!
Thats awesome.
Top marks to all involved
Cheers folks.
Thanks Rich, I’m glad to have contributed
Cheers Steve
Hi as you may well know I am new and have a few questions.
Hope you can point me in the right direction for answers.
1 I have put my full name as my map location in county durham, can I change my user name to just my first name?
Hi @IanGeordieBoy it looks as though you’re quite new here
Why not nip over to the Introductions page, and say hello properly and tell us a bit about yourself.
No, perhaps unsurprisingly the username Ian
was taken by another member many years ago
If you wish to change your username please find a username which is not in use (you can do this by searching via the magnify glass on the top right corner) then contact the club directly with your request.
Thanks for the quick response sorry to bother you.
Hi , probably a stupid question but does drone scene automaticly update or do we down load the updates ??
You don’t need to update anything it just happens as it’s live or when the updates go live rather
Ok, thanks Kirky.
