Have you tried enabling Galileo sats too?
Well, it turns out I was being a bit blasĆ©, as Iād had an issue a couple of minutes earlier at half the distance, but I had a few seconds to reel it in and recover. Second time it pretty much disarmed itself instantly.
To be fair, I havenāt found the ELRS setup particularly difficult, unless you consider that the range issue indicates Iāve done it wrong. Iāll tinker with the ELRS settings, but I still have all my Crossfire stuff for now (sorry, @Steviegeek ).
Yes, been reading about that. More shoppingā¦
Yep. The TX was on 100mW (CE limited) but had Dynamic on - I have switched that off, as I think that stops it from trying to āsave energyā by trying to use lower power. I may see about reflashing everything as well, to give me more TX options.
I have now, although this icon never lights up, which I think means that BF is not even seeing the GPS module.
I suspect if you poke around on the forums here, thereās some comments somewhere on how to bump the TX power too if you havenāt done that already. Just be careful you donāt accidentally go over the UK legal?
Perish the thought.
EP2/RP2 are really geared towards small drones / proximity flying with onboard ceramic antenna. You want one of those with external antennas (2 even better) - they are quite cheap too. For the GPS - the M10 needs BF4.5 to work properly (there is a long winded way to flash them separately if you are stuck on a prev BF version because of a known bug)
There are improvements on 4.5
But I have walksnail GPS M10 on 4.4 (and was 4.3) on my LR4 and it locks quick. Warm about 3 minutes or less. Cold seconds.
IMHO shielding and position to sky is key.
Does the icon change if you are outside ?
Expert mode GPS tab you can see sats in Betaflight as it tries to get a lock.
the M10 GPS firmware was a big issue in BF4.4 - depends on what GPS unit / how they go out of factory I guess - I have a Walksnail GPS - and it went from 4 sats max (no fix) on BF4.4 to 15+ consistent with BF4.5
The new vtx (V2/V3) are also way better on this front (well shielded) compare to the v1 - this is my 3.5 setup - there is a nano v3 vtx in the central stack packed with a GPS mate in between the vtx and the gps receiver. I was about to start the whole cable shielding/move antenna away/⦠experiments as could not get a reliable fix but then heard about the BF4.4 bug. Now with BF4.5 - I usually switch the gps mate on - ready the google and radio and by the time I come to plug in the battery - 30s or so - I have a fix. On the other hand the naked v3 vtx (sold now as 1S mini) is a GPS killer.
Good tips. I learnt something l.
Thanks for sharing.
Ah, yes, Iād not spotted that you were on the EP2. I only use those on my smaller drones. up to 3.5" and fly relatively close. Anything bigger and itās EP1, or even Gemini.
Fair enough, and it is tiny. Maybe Iām just falling for marketing bull.
The ELRS EP2 receiver is an ultra compact, tiny 2.4Ghz receiver with a built in ceramic antenna. Ideally suited for any micro quad or tiny model, even though it has no external antenna its still possible to achieve ~2km range in open areas. - source
So Iād expect it to hold up to at least a quarter of that. Anyway, live and learn. Iāll give the EP1 a try. At least it wonāt break the bank.
This is my goto ELRS receiver now
True Diversity, two amps not just two antennas
RP4TD_Receiver_User_Manual.pdf (507.3 KB)
What packet trays you rubbing on the ELRS Jez? I think I have had one fail-safe every on ELRS and that was EP2 actually and behind a shed tonne of land. About 1km away.
Something not right at under 500m full line of sight
Sorry, mate, was busy yesterday. Will be again today, sadly. Anywayā¦
Iām going with āwhat packet rates you runningā? 150Hz
Hereās the basic TX Settings
Packet Rate: 150Hz
Telem Ratio: 1:32
Switch Mode: Hybrid
Model Match: Off
TX Power
o Max Power: 100mW
o Dynamic: Off
Version: 3.0.0-RC2 CE_LE7855d1
Naz RX
Version: 3.0.1 (2470fc)
Everything other than the binding phrase is ādefaultā, but I wanted to check the Model Match was appropriate, just in case.
Model ID: 255 (Model Match Off)
Having done a little reading (Oscar Liang - I find it preferable to trawling JB videos), I see that thereās a lot to dig into. Unfortunately, I wonāt be able to do that today. I think the first job may be to flash everything to the same version.
Haha⦠My typing lol
150 sounds fine. Definitely shouldnāt be fail safing. All 3.x work together but yeah good to keep them in line.
Tbh I donāt really change or play with anything on it. Model match Iāve not used either, but can be useful.
That all sounds good to me Jez
Suggest you have a RX with damaged antenna
a new receiver will fix it
All looks ok to me.
Model Match and Model # are interesting things.
No need to use Model Match unless you want to make sure one model on the TX canāt control a different RX. I use this for controlling settings on my planes with headtracking setups, but most wonāt need or want it. So leave it off.
Model number is more interesting. You set this in the actual model settings on your controller and what it does is save the elrs settings as being different. Think of it as a link between the controller settings and the elrs settings. I have one model on the controller set for ābig quadsā with high powers and rates set on the elrs lua script and one for ātinywhoopsā with lower powers, but still faster ratesā¦
Again most do not need to worry so, just have a single model defined and leave the model number alone⦠if you change it then itāll switch over to the settings assigned to that model in your elrs tx, which could lose any changes youāve made⦠(well, not lose⦠you can always switch it back)
Looks like the GPS I got might be goosed, too. Managed to do some āfairy watchmakerā soldering on the old TBS unit to the connection points of the surface-mount JST socket I knocked off and itās working. Probably not too robust though.
I have some spare M10ās if/when weāre both in the same place next if you donāt sort before then.
