EASA ruling regarding C0 marked, sub-250g drones and the EU 120m height restriction

You obviously haven’t read the thread or watched the videos

I’ve seen the latest vids Wayne  but as yet have not taken the Hack plunge. If it were permanent not required the procedure before every flight I’d do it.

No mate, your drone will know it’s flying back in the UK because this “feature” is geo-located.

The same way your drone switches to FCC mode automatically when you fly it in America and other countries, it automatically switches back to CE power levels when you’re back in the UK

Its nothing to do with the hack, that’s just confirming its Geolocation based

the app spoofs the drone to think it is in another part of the world so FCC works but the added advantage is it also removes the limit
If you then use the genuine app the limit is back

DJI’s recent antics here are also a constant reminder why I’ve got a thing for Autel drones

I mean having to use your phone to connect to the RC/drone to load the patch so to speak before each flight.

You’ve lost me

Just checking that everyone is understanding that when your drone is (back) in the UK this whole 120m limit thing simply does not exist

This everyone :point_up_2:

A European one?

Filipino pale lager :grinning:

Just don’t drink it over 120m

If you read the comments in @ianinlondon 's latest vid he states that according to DJI there is a possibility of losing (a UK purchased mini 4 pro) above 120m feature on return to UK?

Oh well, I’ll just get the m4pro before Jan 24 and wait till I go on Hol next year to see what happens! Either way its no big deal!

Yes, in the UK

I have two points that are completely messed up imho:

  1. I’ve been told if a UK traveller goes to Europe and gets their mini 4 up in the air, it will auto-set the limit it to 120m, BUT, on return to the UK, it will remain with that limit, due to EASA requirements that the limit cannot be undone. Frankly I find that impossible to believe as you’re being permanently fcked just for visiting another country, but it would be good for an EU flyer to tell us what happens when they come over here.
  2. Worse, I have also been told that EASA have confirmed a Mini 4 Pro declassified through the new process will NOT be classed as a legacy drone, as it’s a model that was C0 certified and has subsequently been modified, thus not making it a legacy drone but in fact a modified drone, relgated to A3 flights only. Which would actually mean anyone declassifying their M4 Pro will also be fcked after Jan 1 2024.

So to me, this whole pointless issue (we are talking about the tiniest lump of plastic after all) is basically a way to get fcked whichever way you go…

Me too.

I can understand the perma-lock being automatically re-applied every time you go back to any EU country, that part makes perfect sense.

But it can’t lock your drone to 120m above the take off point, forever, in every single country around the world.

What about the counties who have limits higher than 120m, or even no limits at all? That simply can’t be right.

Was it DJI that told you this mate?

This can’t be true and is proven above by the Drone Tweaks app

In the official app you can see the 120m limit and the option to request higher altitude limit

By spoofing the Drone with the DT app they are no longer available
This proves that if outside the EU you are ok, no limit no option to remove C0 label :+1:

No, I was having a detailed chat with Sean Geeksvana; he and i often chat on technicalities of legal stuff as he’s usually done a lot of work talking to the key people; in this instance he’s advised me that he’s had confirmation directly from EASA that a Mini 4 Pro modified in this process to remove the C0 label would definitely not be classed as a legacy drone able to be flown as a sub-250gm legacy drone; EASA have confirmed to him directly that such a Mini 4 modified in that way would be non-standard and A3 flights only. But I argued that not only is this stupid, who would even know? And he countered with the fact that some countries, like the Spanish & french, are getting an app to help them identify and know which model is what… So the Mini 4 is a known C0 drone, so if it doesn’t have the label, it’s bene modified. We both agreed all this is beyond stupid and pointless, he was just relaying what EASA had told him directly

Sorry Ian, I meant the bit about the drone still being capped to 120m when it comes back to the UK.

Was it DJI that told you that part?
