EASA ruling regarding C0 marked, sub-250g drones and the EU 120m height restriction

No, Sean said DJI had told him that, but again, I argued that just couldn’t be true, as it would mean you were permanently penalised for just visiting another country. He was adamant that that was how it was going to be implemented as EASA have demanded that, which is why so many people are being told by DJI that it will affect people in the UK as well.
So for me, we really need somebody to go and visit Europe with their mini 4 Pro, fly, then come back and see if the 120m cap remains in place

Perhaps UK ownership (and representative organisations) need to lobby DJI to remind them that the UK is no longer part of the EASA. Therefore it would a gross injustice to enforce a permanent restriction to any UK registered sub 250g drone that was temporarily operated in the EU.

Had anyone asked DJI if this is correct?

Has anyone got a meaningful and definite response from DJI?

We reached out to DJI this afternoon, will report back in due course.

Hi @ianinlondon, A YouTuber (MK creator) is also exploring the fine detail with DJI following a similar chat on his channel. Hopefully a consistent message will eventually surface and presumably DJI will be getting p*%$d off with enquiries about the interpretation of their messaging :exploding_head:

presume it won’t affect other drones unless we update their firmware?

I’m hoping the 25/09/23 m3pro firmware update that “fixed some bugs” does not contain a Trojan height fix for January 24

unless the next firmware releases make a brew I won’t be going near them.

I am surprised that DJI take any notice of anyone as all the other Chinese companies dont

M3P doesn’t have a C0 classification.

As Ian said, we won’t know whether the 120m limit remains in the UK until someone arrives back in the UK from flying in the EU :man_shrugging:t2:

I agree with you, it’s got to be gps based, and so should not be an issue in the UK.

My question is though, for those who fly in the UK and EU; will a declassified M4P be a legacy drone, in EASA’s interpretation, and able to operate in the A1 category, similar to C0; or, will it be placed in the A3 category because it’s been declassified/modified from a C0 labelled drone?

go back to USA, and now it will be locked to 120m… I can’t see that flying very far…

if it’s not locked… because of the FCC designation then it should not be locked in the UK either

I must admit who the flying F is going to care if it’s a C0 drone or now A3… who do you think has the time and brain power to inspect every drone for which category it is in…

if it’s below 250g… then it’s allowed over people, not assemblies etc etc…
