Ewloe Castle just of the A55 onto the B5125 there is a small parking spot near to the pathway to the castle it is also near to the Boarding Kennels, short walk into the wooded area & the castle will be on your left, the castle is lower down in the land than the land you walk in on which make it different from all other castle I know of
The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 14/06/2022. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location.
Where there any āno droneā signs about? Only asking cos on the Cadw website they have a ban on all drone flights around and over sites that they look after. I understand they can restrict TOAL from the grounds but not actual over flight so was just wondering if there was any signage
Your welcome, you know I did not realize it was a CADW site or I would not have flown there, I should have checked the site over online before driving there, once there I had no reception to check on my Appās
I want to fly here, but there are no parking or take off and landing markers. Can anyone that has flown here or knows the area add some markers to the map please?
Thatās my most local castle. I havenāt taken the drone there yet because of the way itās hidden in the trees and set below the hill. It is compact and you get a feel of itās age. It would certainly be an interesting challenge to get some keepers.
Built in mid 13th century by the last king of Wales,(Llywelyn the Last).
It is considered an unusually vulnerable location for a castle, but was probably hidden in Wepre woods.
The lay by parking is the closest if there is a space. Another way to get there is through Wepre Park, where Wepre Hall once stood. with loads of free parking. There is a fairly long walk past visitors centre/cafe, along the āM6ā main route, which follows Wepre Brook upstream.
15 minutes drive away is Flint Castle, which was the first of a series of castles built during King Edward 1stās campaign to conquer Wales.
Good light and views from the East to south side, with woods and river Dee estuary as a backdrop. Easy access, Free, experienced no problems with people, This is my drone practice, I exclude as much of Flint town as possible!
If youāre confident with flying fast and low over water, receding tides reveal patterns of rippled mud, small pools and drains(?) to follow, lead-in and reveal the castle. sun-set charts may help get some light on this side
The mud flats are dangerous, so a ditched drone will seen but totally lost!
