@ash2020 hi Andrew i just downloaded the video and the stutter is there as others have mentioned
the only thing that is different is the file format you have M4V i read somewhere that MOV is better and what do you have as you’re setting Pal or NTSC another thread i read somewhere mentioned that NTSC was better as it does 30 frames per second
not sure if this helps but they are stunning shots
Jeff
Thanks Jeff. I must admit I didn’t check but it must be NTSC as I was shooting at 30fps. The file format from the Mavic is MP4 and as the stutter is there in the raw file, I don’t imagine changing formats would make any difference. I use the H.264 codec which always seems to be a good compromise of quality and file size. I just have to come to terms with the fact I messed up and make sure I use the fast memory card next time.
its just that i read MOV is better than MSV as a file format for editing in FCPX which you use
every little helps
Sorry @ash2020 , wasn’t aware mate, was going to try it on my Mac
It’s been a long time since I used fcpx, but in premiere there’s a warp stabiliser effect which can smooth out all the shakes. Fcpx should have an equivalent.
It crops in slightly and then moves the frame to account for the shakes. You have to fiddle with the settings to get it perfect, but that should sort the 4k footage for you.
It’s not “shakes”, though. Missing frames won’t get fixed.
Oops, read the word ‘jerky’ in your op & misinterpreted…
Thanks Rob. Dave’s right, it won’t fix missing frames.
I have one last idea. I’m going to try using Apple Motion to sloooow it right down to maybe 500fps which might put in the “tweenies” and then speed it up to normal again. Clutching at straws but worth a try.
Here’s the definitive test. The card I used for the boat vs. a brand new Sandisk superfast card.

So it just need another trip out then at least you know the cause
What was the card you had in originally so other peeps know not to get it
I always use the Sandisk Extreme 32gb, never had a problem !.
Need to be U3 , to be sure you don’t have a problem !
I’m afraid to say it was an unbranded one, although allegedly a Class 10, U1.
All you need now is sunshine and light winds.
#Take2
Yeah right! I’m likely to get that twice in a year!
I find this chart useful in understanding the speeds/types
I always tell people to head towards at least U3 - V30, they will handle most things to do with Video Or Stills
Ooh, we’re up that way every so often (have a house on Iona) - would love to join you some time! (wife and I are Coastal Skippers so wouldn’t just be passengers).
Give us a shout next time you’re up Colin.
Thanks Chris. That is a very useful chart.
Well done indeed.
I sail too, I haven’t yet dared fly my MP when under way but have done take-offs and landings on the foredeck when at anchor. Still very worrying, getting it back down without touching anything!
Thanks Dick.
I had mentally prepared for it, how I was going to do a helix shot and maybe fly backwards ahead of the boat, then when the battery was about 40%, heave to and bring it alongside, hover and pick it out of the air!
Hahahahaha! Nothing like.
You saw that vertical takeoff, it disappeared in no time, then you are disorentated, you keep losing track of where it is and jumping from looking at the fpv to making sure you’re not sailing into it. Forget the helix shot - no chance of getting a starting point set up.
Finally we heaved to but, despite it seeming like we had stopped dead, we were still drifting at quite a rate so then you have to decide whether to bring it in on the windward side or the leeward side. Windward side it’s likely to hit something, you can’t use the foredeck because the sail’s in the middle and leeward side you have to keep the power on otherwise it keeps going away from you. I cannot imagine how it is possible to catch it under full sail.
